hmm in fear of being dragged outside and stoned here but I actually enjoyed it.
maybe if they can just sedate Evans before the cameras start rolling and get MLB to loosen up it will be good,
anyone else catch Sabines little dig at Ferraris
Ep1 so I expect the above to be worked on over the series and it to improve a lot. Just happy to have more car tv to watch. Roll on having the 2 shows
now if only they had managed to ditch the reliants and used a couple of old TVRs instead. surely they could have managed at least one breakdown for comedy effect maybe have sabine storm past them in a sag or god forbid that lovely road legal Speed 12.
TLDR: I enjoyed it, its familiar but just different enough to set itself apart.

Main show 6/10 - Has potential.
Extra Gear 9/10 - Could easily have been on BBC2 instead of the main show.
Totally agree: Rory Reid and Chris Harris were far superior as presenters on the 'Extra Gear' show than Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc on the main show. Well worth watching Reid and Harris on BBC iplayer.Extra Gear 9/10 - Could easily have been on BBC2 instead of the main show.

I suspect the audience, which was pretty thing and seemed to be a lot older for the few I noticed, are maybe a last-minute thing. Was anyone on the waiting list for the previous show, and did that get cleared or are these still on that list? Wasn't it some years long? Sorry if it's already been mentioned.
To be on the "list" for the audience you have to sign up via ApplauseStore.comThey then release tickets, and its a free-for-all ballot as to who gets them. You have to apply for each individual show when they release the tickets, they tell you what dates.
I had applied for tickets last year, didn't get any.
I did get tickets and went along last Thursday for the episode coming up this week.
My colleague, he got tickets for the last ever show before Clarkson was sacked.
He also got tickets to the filming last Thursday.
So no, its not a "waiting list" as such, and to have been described as such for a long time is something of a mistake, its just an open ballot where some people get it, others don't. I had been applying for tickets every year since about 2004. However I know some people who have been more than once.

I'll give it a chance, it will take time to get into their grove and hopefully they'll tweak the format just as they did last time. Matt Le Blanc just puts me to sleep though, I just don't find him funny and am suprised he's getting some favourable mentions.

I'd rather watch this new show than no show at all. Maybe they'll learn from public feedback, but a lot of the forthcoming shows will already have been filmed.
If LeBlanc gets comfortable doing it he could be OK. This episode he was far too wooden and clearly reading a script too often. Only when he was driving did he loosen up, presumably because he was a little distracted so it flowed better.
Unfortunately the rest of the show was just painful IMO. It was trying to be what Top Gear was. Unfortunately the acting, the jokes, the segments all seemed too set up. It was like all the previous people had left a detailed process manual of how to make an episode, but not given any further help. We all knew that stuff was set up, and jokes were written, but this time you could tell, and there was a reference too it, which breaks the illusion.
I will watch the next episode, but this is its last chance.

Very, very disappointed that they chose not to re-boot it. Old format was definitely becoming stale, this was the perfect opportunity to make a change. Left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth and also made it very obvious that CH&M were not there. I'm guessing this is so the BBC can at least secure a new season's worth of sales to other networks on the basis that there's something familiar there. Hope they do some drastic changes in the future, if it lasts.
Biggest issue - Evans. What an utter try-hard piece. Cringy and annoying hearing him trying to incite applause and excitement over something totally not exciting. SIARPC is even worse than before. I like how they have at least this time tried to steer the chatter in the automotive direction, but who honestly thought doing it like that was a good idea? Shocker. Normally quite like Sabine, but didn't think she came off to well in this particular, obviously scripted segment.
LeBlanc is a glimmer of hope. Wasn't expecting much - studio segments were a bit stale but feel like that's probably Evans holding the reins back a little. Very much enjoyed his segment in the Nomad.
Top 3 things to change:
For the love of god, mix up the format. Missed opportunity.
Use more of LeBlanc. Could grow into a great face of the show.
Get rid of Evans. Please God.

It was a decent first attempt. MLB was really good I thought. The guy that was on with Chris Harris on BBC3 is just crap. Harris should have the segment himself. S Scmitt is decent. Not as hot as i remember. She's possibly had to much sausage now.
I thought Harris came over as a bit of a weirdo.johnxjsc1985 said:

They just tried to carry on where they left off 12 months ago, rather than refresh and reboot, but with Evans adding 'EVERYBODY' excitedly to the end of each sentence. I feared the worst when the opening tease voice over was done in ye olde Clarkson style.
Liked Matt Le Blanc's laconic style, but the rest was just TFI Friday plus done to death Robin Reliants.
U N I M A G I N A T I V E!
Also, was it filmed in a refugee camp?

I think some are guilty of viewing the old Top Gear with rose tinted glasses.
The trio were sorta awkward to begin with and lacked chemistry. I remember when Hammond joined with his bubbly presenting style which he borrowed from other shows he did at the time. He very much came across as a 'try too hard' and didn't fit. Captain slow was a tad on the boring side. They couldn't get their personalities across.
What bought them massively closer and bought them a tonne of goodwill credit, was the near death crash. This bonded the trio. This is when the the trio really gelled IMO.
Evans and Le Blanc are clearly not going to get such slack.
Top Gear has also been quite tired for a few years. From one of those shows you'd record and watch, to something you'll casually watch if nothing else is on. I know plenty of friends simply didn't watch it. In my opinion, nostalgia aside, it was due a death and Clarkson's antics came at the right time. A refreshed show is what the trio needed.
Anyway, I'd certainly give this series a full run before giving up
