Overall I thought it was middling.

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get more Sabine or any Chris Harris. I'm not really a Gorden Ramsay fan, I've always found the interviews the weakest part. I see no reason to cry panic yet, under the old regime there were weak episodes too.

Chris Harris and more Sabine in Extra Gear on Three. Worth a watch.

Chris Harris sounds pretty dull though he really grates on me. Maybe just the Sabine show?

No you wouldn't, that is just a tired Clarksonism. And we'll get more of those on Amazon prime.

'Gave it the benefit of my doubt but frankly I wish I'd shampooed the dog instead.
I was under the impression that they were going to make changes but I was very surprised at how much of the old TG they kept hold of.
It was just another Fifth Gear and look at the ratings they get/got...and FG have/had presenters that know about cars.
Still....the BBC and The Grauniad will like it and no one was upset tonight.

I hate to admit it, but I never realized what people were on about when they talked about the unique chemistry of JC, JM and RH and how it didn't really matter if they strayed away from talking abut cars....I do now.

I concur. Scripted audience didn't help and Le Blanc was the perfect antidote to Evans hysteria by sending me to sleep

Evans tried to run it like a radio show. It didn't work.

LeBlanc was better than expected.

The segments lacked any suspense or 'story' - they weren't that interesting to watch.

Cinematography was top notch as ever.

I thought it was Ok and need to give it a chance. It got better through the hour.

I think people have quickly forgotten how much dross was put out in the last few series. Imagine if the new presenters had bought a couple of budget Peugeots and driven them off the road like old people do. The Patagonia special was two hours of my life I'll not get back.
Way beyond it's sell by date IMO

So a bit disappointing that the format was the same and didn't like the rally cross change but suspect some of it was the BBC claiming the format and hope this might evolve.

Next week is the 675LT so hopefully see hArris's debut.

Looking forward to TGT but I'll be surprised if it's any better.

The cinematography was stunning as ever, but the script and presentation felt very flat and awkward. Hopefully it will improve, but it's still a car based entertainment show so I'll continue to watch it.

Not sure what people are expecting after one hour, the 'old TG' boys had years to get the chemistry really going (also people have short memories, May got an absolute hammering when he first joined).

Le Blanc definitely has loads of potential, would like to see him paired up with some of the rest of the team as I think if he really hits it off with one or two of them it will be superb.

I'm not going to try and make faux-witty Clarkson-like comments. I'll just say it how it was. It was dire. Using the same basic format (slightly stupid, rather unlikely comparisons) would have been dull. Trying to imitate the old show, whilst being very obvious indeed about the scripted content (which course the previous incarnation was too, but in a far-better-presented way) led to the aforementioned direness.

The old boys must be laughing their socks off.

(PS: I assume Sabine is the Stig now?)

Presenting was pretty awful, Chris Evans isn't a good presenter, i didn't understand why they drove to blackpool, that whole scene just seemed like a waste of time.

Sabine is funny though, I watched a bit of 'ExtraGear' but found it very dull. It's a little bit like the One Show, but with cars. I found this tweet about Chris Harris quite funny though: "Chris Harris definitely has bodies hidden somewhere. What a weird guy #ExtraGear"

Have a read of this: the thread on the first episode of the 2002 series.

Very similar thoughts to now... I say give it time.
I just read page one and everyone seems to love it, am I missing something?

The current top gear is (was) the most sucessful documetary show in the world. It has a huge budget and a huge following. All the current team have to do is "not fk it up" and they should be a sucess. Tonights show was boring and st. Also WFT was going on with the sound. Why was it flimed in an echo chamber?

Thought it was crap. My son thought it was crap. From my son's facebook his mates thought it was crap.

Its a shame as we had the chance for more than one decent car program.

Didn't watch it as I don't like Chris Evans.

Don't think I missed much from reports on various social media, seems like about 80% of people have a negative opinion with the remainder almost all made up of "it was OK, will watch again to see if it develops". Not found any overwhelming positive "that was great" type reviews yet.

I tried to give it a go but I didn't like it. I'm looking forward to seeing TGT, again hoping it'll be something fresh.

I was hoping that they'd try a different format but they didn't. I didn't really have an opinion on Chris Evans as I didn't really know who he was or what he was famous for but I don't like him. Unnecessarily cheesy and it seemed at some points he was just making noise and speaking for the sake of it.

I genuinely liked Matt LeBlanc and preferred him over Evans. I'll keep watching it as I like cars and hopefully it will get better once they've all had time to properly get to know each other and work towards making it better no doubt from all the bad reviews that they'll be reading.

I also thought it was quite good we finally have confirmation of a Ferrari LaFerrari Spyder which nobody else seems to have mentioned.
