Didn't following the White Raven thing. Characters clearly understood the implication but it was unclear to me. Is this some cultural thing marking the start of a regular winter or something specific to the long winter.
I think it was mentioned in season one. Basically the Citadel sends white ravens to every town and city to tell/warn that Winter has arrived. All winters are 'long' in living memory but there are only folk stories about the winter where the dead rise.Nice call on the Dorne and Tyrell banners in the fleet, I missed that!!!

It was a fking excellent episode
Exactly, pretty much, as I wanted it bar a couple of disappointments but... The rest of it more than made up for it
Score was amazing
Varys & Lady Tyrell seem to travel in time
And how quickly did the news of the Tyrell deaths get to Dorne? It's not like anyone in KL with Ravens was left to really think to send them a note

Great, great episode.
I suppose now is time to rate the season overall. The season contained epic highs like The Door, and The winds of winter, spectacular battle scenes and very significant plot progression.
It also contained a few of their most moronic plot lines ever though foremost amongst which was Arya vs the Waif and suffered from the fatal flaw that ep 7 & 8 felt like padding, just when they should be building toward the end.
Anyway, better than season 5 IMO, probably up there with S3 & S4 for me, maybe S4 slightly edges it still as their best season.

Dorne and Highgarden have always hated each other as they are close neighbours and therefore traditional enemies, for them both to be on the same side supporting Danny is VERY bad news for Cersei! Turning on the Tyrells was just stupid, their resources was the ONLY reason the Lannisters still held on to power. What have they got left? 10,000 men if that?
Not forgetting that without food from Highgarden King's Landing is going to starveSo what's the theory on the R+L=J reveal?
Something about that scene didn't feel right; there wasn't quite the big curtain drop I was expecting. They definitely implied that Jon was her son, but stopped short of mentioning who the father was, aside from the fact that 'Robert will kill him if he knows'.
So two things from that; either they're holding back on the big reveal and assumed most people don't know the R+L=J theory (or just teasing us) or they're going to throw a huge curve ball and smash the R+L and create the ?+L=J theory.
I'd love it to be Robert B, but the timeline just doesn't marry up.

Then it's a swift ride North to smash Euron and take his ships, proclaiming Yara as Queen of the Iron Isles.
It just can't be that simple though. Dany will have to suffer in some way, she can't just take the throne and marry Jon, it's too much of a good ending for GRRM.
I hope it's not that simple. The story has been stripped so much, I can see it ending with one series to go.It just can't be that simple though. Dany will have to suffer in some way, she can't just take the throne and marry Jon, it's too much of a good ending for GRRM.

I was thinking the same last night. The Vale Knights do as Robyn Arryn says, he's Sansa's cousin and easily manipulated. After that, who are his friends? Has he burnt bridges with the Lanisters? They're doomed, Boltons are gone, he's never been 'in' with Dorne or the Tyrells and Varys knows he's not to be trusted, so he won't be a friend of Dany's.
Stuggling to see how this plays out for him. But he always has a scheme running.
In the books, Littlefinger has more going for him, he has Houses across the kingdoms in massive debt to him.Stuggling to see how this plays out for him. But he always has a scheme running.

Not just that, but why would he want to kill his bd birthed by his one true love??He never showed any grudge towards his many bds...
I think they're just going by "regular TV viewers don't know yet his father is a Targ and Danny is his aunt".

I agree. SOme great great moments, but also some sloppy moments, which is a real shame. I think the writing has been not up to scratch in places, and the race to shoot the story along impacts the quality. But it's still good.I suppose now is time to rate the season overall. I concur. There is something fishy about that whispering, why do it? Is it the legitimacy thing?Something about that scene didn't feel right; there wasn't quite the big curtain drop I was expecting. Surely she was trying to protect him and keep him away from harm, even sending the Mountain to stop him, but then realised that she couldn't stop the prophecy from being fulfilled...ali_kat said:

Yeah, I thought she was going to cut Jamie to pieces when Marcella died, instead she seemed to have become quite fatalistic. I reckon she'd prepared herself for Tommen dying somehow and she's hardly going to break down in tears in front of Qyburn.I wonder at Qyburns motives. He was nearly killed by the Mountain but seems to have got his revenge. He was kicked out from the Maesters and now he's got his own lab and killed the Grand Maester.
Yet he doesn't seem too vengeful. I do wonder if Varys trust of children will lead to his downfall after seeing what Qyburn's been doing with them.

Those interesting in the amazing score for this episode, it was by a guy called Ramin Djawadi - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS-gbqbVd8c&li...
Yes he's done a few notable scores, I picked up on him from the film The Unborn, great composer.I wonder where the big fleet is heading. I thought they were going to land in Dorne but the Dornish & Tyrrell fleet has sailed out (bringing Varys back with it) to merge with the Ironborn fleet and Daenerys's ships. So they must be going somewhere else.
Casterly Rock & Lannisport? As Daario suggested, it would be great to see those next series. Strike at Kings Landing after forming a base at her birthplace Dragonstone? If they head towards the Iron Islands to defeat Euron (would that even be Daenerys's priority?) she would be passing Casterly Rock and could offload the army there.
Anywhere else make sense?

Oh yeah, she wanted to keep him safe, but I feel she had already moved quite some way from him emotionally.glazbagun said:

Here is Preston's amusing and insightful take o ep 10. His more serious Q&As normally follow a few days after and are very informative.
