What light?

Something that has got me thinking, Sam in the Citadel library. That's too good to just be a scene filler. So what is he going to find there that could be of use against the White Walkers or anyone else?

We already know Dragonglass kills them, we know Valryian steel kills them, we know (through Bran) who created them, how and why, we also know from Benjen that the wall was built with magic to keep the white Walkers out although if Bran crosses through will that break the magic.

So what might he find? The identity of the first White Walker (Night King) created by the children perhaps that might be important to the back story, why they are coming south, or something else?

Could there be another secret as yet unknown, something at Winterfell maybe to do with the "there must always be a Stark in Winterfell". I have seen one rumour regarding Winterfell to do with the Ice in a Song of Ice and Fire but it's been a long time since series 1 with nothing to show yet. Not sure if I should expand on this rumour though.

Any other thoughts or do you think the final 2 series cover just Sam's studies and Maester exams qualifying just as the Night King swallows the world.

Is that what Benjen said?

I think so, that's why Benjen couldn't go with Bran & Meera, he couldn't go past the wall because he's been brought back to life with Dragonglass like the WWs.

Yeah, that bit, but the purpose of the wall....

I know the show will be different, but I reckon the kids in the forest are not to be trusted in the books.

I thought that he might research why Valyrian steel blades can kill them, and make more blades with the same properties.

We've seen no more than8/9 at any one time though? At the moment we have at least five Valyrian blades on offer, plus stloads of dragonglass (at Dragonstone), I don't think the swords or their construction should have too much importance...having said that though, the logic of a lot of series 6 sort of fell apart.

That would be a bold end to the series, Sam cramming for his Maester finals unaware the rest of the world has been laid to frozen waste by the Nights King.

Yeah its funny after all the betrayal we've witnessed (actually a shortage in S5&6 bar JS and Sparrow) we still give the Children a pass despite them admitting to creating a WMD in a time of peace.

No peace, their lands (the whole of Westros) was being invaded by the andals and the first men.

I thought they made the WW after the peace with the first men but before the Andal invasion?

Leaf said they were created because they were being slaughtered by men (she didn't say if it was the first men or the andals) and their sacred woods were being cut down.

I think that is one aspect of the dodgyness. The Long Night supposedly came 2,000 years after the truce was brokered.
