How the bl**dy hell have we come to the season finale??? It only seems it started a couple of weeks ago and has whizzed along. Wish they would expand it by 5-10 episodes per season!!

Just watched Ep10 preview on Youtube.... ooh!
Next year there may be 3 less episodes! http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/game-of-thrones/401...
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! How can they compress it into that few episodes?

Perhaps pyrrhic is too strong, I just get the impression we are supposed to understand it was very costly battle for Ramsey.
I absolutely don't get that impression at all. I thought it was implied it was virtually nothing for him to mop up the remains.
I re-watched Stannis' battle last night. Bolton's army easily outnumbered them by 5/1 or greater, the vast majority of which appeared to be mounted. Nothing less than a total slaughter would ensue.

What's odd though is that the end of the battle appeared to be in the woods, which were a couple of 100 yards behind Stannis when they engaged. It seems rather implausible that Stannis would find himself the only survivor in the woods, surrounded by the dead at the end of the battle.

Stannis' Kingsguard protecting their King getting him to safety when all was lost and falling before him, before he kills the final two Bolton men who followed them into the woods maybe? Perhaps he was wandering around shouting "A horse, a horse, my Kingdom for a horse!" smile

A strong kingsguard fighting back to the woods would seem sensible. Stannis is sensible and considered a great battlefield commander, he'd choose winning over bards.

I'm sure that's what is suggested but if you watch the battle again, it seems very unlikely.

I reckon they'll be smaller longer episodes. The battle of the bds reportedly cost $10Million and even that had compromises to keep costs down, so I imagine a season of WW swamping the North and Dany burning her way through westeros with a dothraki hoard will burn money like nothing we've seen in TV.

IIRC they are doing it as 2 x 7 episode series instead of 1 x 10 ep series, so eventually we actually get 4 extra episodes wink

Of course. That's how you sell more TV advertising.

At this point below, the front 3 ranks (which gradually filter out of strict alignment) are all going forward the rest are half going forward and many are running back towards the woods, it's then possible they retreat back to the trees for cover and protecting their King at all costs.

All I could hear at this point was my head saying "Form squares" biggrin

I don't think HBO has adverts, it's a subscription channel.

I guess the other 2 dragons are so much smaller due to being locked up and underfed?
There's a theory that that doesn't affect size.

Battle of the bds (2016)

During the fight sequence where Jon Snow is being trampled on, one can see the face of Daniel Craig in the backdrop for around 1 to 2 seconds. After begging to Weiss and Benioff to let him appear on the show, after revealing he was a fan to the Daily Mail, they let him appear.
Anyone re-watched and noticed it?
Wouldn't surprise me, apparently he is a Stormtrooper in the latest film too. Any evidence yet?

I doubt if that has been extensively proved or disproved for dragons.

Most knowledge comes from the people who write stuff down, who are the maesters...now there's a theory... biggrin ...that the maesters conspired to end the dragons.

I don't think White Walkers are the bad guys.

An utterly brilliant video by Preston, on how Syrio cannot be a faceless man.

Preston has had some good videos on the show.

His stuff on the books can be a bit far fetched.

Stannis is right at the very front though.

I was thinking more along the lines of "RUN AWAY!!" hehe

They are streamlining things massively and we are close to the end.

If every episode is a mini movie rather than filled with the filler customary for a TV show they can do it easily. 14 episodes at an average of 50 minutes each, that is 700 minutes or around LOTR length for just the end of the story.

not including prequels or stand alone movies if the quality is the same
