If Longclaw is really lightbringer, it also raises a question or two given we've seen Longclaw shatter White Walkers; is that because it is a Valyrian steel sword or because it is the magic Lightbringer.

yes Robert reckoned the Dothraki alone would be enough. It's great watching S1 again when you actually know who everyone is.

And to imagine that there was once a small chance that Cersei might have grown without bitterness.

I am now of the persuasion that all prophecy is bogus.

Lightbringer is the name of the sword, and valyrian the special make. I reckon valyrian is the important bit, because it's an alloy with special properties, possibly obsidian is used in its construction somehow.

Yeah Valarian steel was made in part with magic, so it having properties which kill magical creatures seems easy enough to swallow. Likewise Dragonfire, with the dragons links to the rise in magic everywhere.

Lightbringer, if it ever sees the light of day, is less important as a weapon than it is as a sign of who will be Azor Ahai- like King Arthur being automatically fit to rule because he pulled the sword from the stone. If Davos kills Mel and his dagger erupts then he's Azor Ahai. Some readers believed that Davos himself was Lightbringer.

I don't think the prophesy is bogus but I reckon there'll be some wild hindsight going on when it becomes apparent. If it is straightforward, I think it will be borne of tragedy like Sam killing Gilly or the Hound killing Arya.

In the opening credits it shows the Doom of Valyria. Another portent for Kings Landing?

That would be a Deus Ex ending! Little Finger/the night king on the throne and all of mankind about to fall... When an asteroid hits KL and nukes the white walkers.

Magic is stated as having something to do with it, Tobo Mott is brought from the Free cities to reforge Ice, could magic=trade secrets?
THere hasn't been any successful prophecy yet in ASOIAF, and as said, hindsight is very useful is trying to wedge prophecies onto events.

Battle of the bds (2016)

During the fight sequence where Jon Snow is being trampled on, one can see the face of Daniel Craig in the backdrop for around 1 to 2 seconds. After begging to Weiss and Benioff to let him appear on the show, after revealing he was a fan to the Daily Mail, they let him appear.
Anyone re-watched and noticed it?
Wouldn't surprise me, apparently he is a Stormtrooper in the latest film too. Any evidence yet?
Watched it a couple of times now and havent seen Craig, but they've managed to get Sean Bean in without anyone picking up on it:

Not sure if any Baratheon Valyrian blades are mentioned in the show, save for the dagger at the start.
VS weapons we know of in the show?
Longclaw
Heartsbane
Ice=Widow's Wail/Oathkeeper
any others??
Not directly on point, and it's related to the book-world rather than the TV-world, but I noticed an interesting reference re-reading Dance of Dragons the other day. In the context of Quentyn Martell making his way to Meeren, it talks about the Tattered Prince's sellsword company and the sword one of the officers possesses. I can't remember the exact words but it was to the effect that there were hundred of Valyrian swords in the world but only a handful of Valyrian arakhs (the Dothraki curved sword as wielded by Daario in the TV show).

That suggests that Valyrian swords aren't THAT uncommon - at least in book-world.

Im sure the wiki says there's ~270 swords known to have existed in the records, mostly in Essos, but many are lost to antiquity- the Doom was 400 years ago, after all.

There could be more unrecorded out there, but being expensive things they'd be beyond the range of even rich merchants and minor nobility so I dont theres much chance of an arms cache showing up outside of Valerias ruins.

He forgot his sword, that was the empty leather scabbard.

Gets to battle. Goes for sword.

Apparently there was a last minute scare story that Brexit would interfere with filming of GoT.

Rumours that the map on the EU office wall is now marked "There be dragons"....
