One thing that always annoys me is that nobody seems to say goodbye in tv or movies, they just hang up.
So i actually don't say goodbye, once the conversation has finished i put the phone down.

People get really annoyed about it but my friends (pand most colleagues) have got used to it now.

This is an Americanism IIRC, most just hang up when done rather than go on with the goodbye formalities that us Brits do.

All telephone numbers in the USA begin with 555 whenever someone reads one out. As someone mentioned Last Action Hero earlier, I think it was something picked up in that movie as well.

As I understand it, that's done on purpose - 555 isn't used.

Not in 24! Been watching them again and it turns out that everyone's cell phone number in America starts 818-555- hehe.

In fact talking of 24, in one of the seasons Jack gets tortured REALLY badly, with meds, knives, hot irons, HV electric shocks etc to the point where he passes out, yet 1 hour later in the next episode he's running about at full chat in fine fettle like it never happened. I think if you'd undergone that level of torture you wouldn't even be capable of moving from your hospital bed for a number of weeks at the very minimum. rolleyes

+ how in every American movie no car or vehicle is capable of turning a corner or bend without 120dB of screeching tyre noise. WTF is that all about? silly Does that happen in day to day life over there?

Occasionally they'll use a real number and it will be some bit of advertising for the TV company or a special message for fans.

When I lived in Edinburgh my phone number was 0131-555-XXXX, I kept wondering if the XXXX bit would ever pop up in a film or TV programme (never did to my knowledge).

On the subject of US phone numbers, sort of, there is a UK ring tone in Gotham when they are in the police station. Every time.

Every bloody car in every bloody film always locks with a 'Tock, tock' sound straight from the late 80s!

Digital cameras that still make the sound of the film winding!

Irrespective of power, engine size etc. the car behind always keeps up in a chase!

YESSS!, this really winds me up, it's picture perfect whereas in reality even though you might have 150mb internet or full signal strength 4G you get a resolution of what looks like 12x8 pixels, constant skipping and dropped calls.

Funnily Enough in NCIS calls into MTAC from abroad rarely look perfect.

As are CCTV cameras. And you can zoom in to the footage in incredible detail.

I've unfortunately had a couple of occasions where I've had to review CCTV footage to try to identify a person or object. The detail and viewing angles etc where so crap they might as well not have been there tbh. To say I was a bit disappointed was an understatement when in the Enemy of the State, they were able to zoom in and follow Will Smith from a bloody satellite in orbit!

Yes, and it's TV, but The Big Bang Theory is the main example I can think of for this one - whoever it is on the screen looks left and right at different people in the room. Webcams don't work like that, they would be looking slightly down from the camera looking at their screen.
