Cannonball Run is 35 today
Discussion
Apparently The Cannonball Run is 35 today - source being a car page on Facebook so it could be very wrong.
Apart from the fact it makes me feel old it gave me an excuse to go find the opening sequence again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtMvkA84s4Y&sp...
Still my favourite car film and one of the best film opening sequences ever.

A couple of days late - it was released on 19th June - but I'll let it slide this time
Cannonball Run 2 hits 32 on the 29th.

I don't need to click the link. I remember that opening scene so well. At that time the Countach was something I'd only seen in pictures. In fact, i think 007's Esprit was the only supercar i'd seen on screen. (It was a supercar to me, whatever it's BHP may have been)Apart from the fact it makes me feel old it gave me an excuse to go find the opening sequence again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtMvkA84s4Y&sp...

Bloody fantastic film.
Having read Burt Reynolds and Roger Moore's autobiographies, Moors talks enthusiastically about Cannonball Run.
Moore said that turning down CR2 was one of his biggest regrets.
Has he SEEN it? Although it might be one of those films that was more fun to make than it is to watch.Having read Burt Reynolds and Roger Moore's autobiographies, Moors talks enthusiastically about Cannonball Run.

One of my favourite films and prob why I like cars so much with Smokey and the Bandit. Remember watching it everyday during rainy school hols. Must have been about 8. Urr should I admit I currently have the start sequence sound as the ringtone on my phone... "It's not what you do, It's how you do it. Be anything you want to be. It's not what you got. It's how you use it. You be you and I'll be me, It's just a matter of style. You can fake it, mile after mile, feeling free. If you got the soul you can make it. move-em out, let 'em roll, from sea to shining sea. Ball. Cannonball." etc etc
Driving coast to coast in America is on my bucket list but doubt I'll ever get to do it. Didn't Gas Monkey bloke Richard Rawlings and his mate Dennis hold the record in a 550 maranello at one point?

They certainly did, with the tattoo on his forearm of the time they did it in. Not sure on the car but a 550 sounds right... Real Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash is 45 years old this year. No one does races like that anymore. Gumballs etc. everyone seems to be so exited nowdays is walk in the park compared to real deal.
Cannonball movie would have been totally different if Steve McQueen were leading man in it like was the plan.

Quite why our parents thought that was appropriate viewing for all us under 10 year olds I'll never know
Mind you, what could be more appealing than some purile, smutty fun at that age! I'll agree it was probably a huge influence on a lot of us petrol heads, I still like a good jumpsuit and big knockers to this day
