Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

As above, film was fine, it might not be the mental image (or, to be fair, precise written description by the author) of Reacher, but I suspect your casting options are limited when you have a half-pint actor who funds the film
Absolutely. All credit to Cruise for recognising the value of the franchise and snapping up the rights so early.
I think we would all cast ourselves as Reacher if we had the power to!

I think the thing is that, at least for those who had previously read some or all of the books, the film was fine despite Cruise, however it would have been better if the title role had been cast with an actor of greater physical stature.
Names that spring to mind, Vince Vaughan, Billy Campbell, John Corbett, many other suggestions are possible. It should be someone significantly over 6 foot though.
Vince Vaughan and that bloke from My Big Fat Greek Wedding????Names that spring to mind, Vince Vaughan, Billy Campbell, John Corbett, many other suggestions are possible. It should be someone significantly over 6 foot though.
You realise the Lee Child books aren't comedies right?

Are they proper actors or not? If they don't want to do it I'm sure there are others. Name one then instead of being just a sarcy git.
Fair enough: Liev Schreiber.See not so difficult was it?
What about Clive Owen?
Or Rory McCann? Hound from GoT? Scottish accent might need some work.

Ron Perlman?
This. Or the guy who played the baddie in Avatar and Terra Nova. Steven someone. The problem I have with this film is it completely misses out the setup book that comes previously. I can't remember the name but it's the short Mexican drug lord and the huge abandoned base with the bikers. It sets up the next book perfectly. I agree though, the film was decent enough. And Rosamund Pike. Always good to watch.
I'd like to have seen Jim Caviezel as Reacher. He's 6'2" and can do "doesn't talk much, bit of a loner, heart in the right place" stood on 'is 'ead...
...OK, he can be a little two-dimensional in some roles, but that'd suit the character perfectly. I love the books, I've been 'in' since the start, and read all of them early on in hardback form, but let's not kid ourselves that they're 'classic literature' in any form. Lee Child does what he does very well, but some of the plots are getting a bit on the 'thin' side in the later books.
Caviezel's turn as John Reese in Person Of Interest has done his character preparation for him, and makes him a shoe-in for the part of Reacher. It looks like I'm going to have to re-read this one now. I wasn't aware of this new film before I saw this thread so I'm well happy. As someone further up hinted at, the books read as though they've been written with easy adaptation to screenplay in mind, so it's a shame that more of them haven't been produced as movies. Yet...

For something like Reacher you want a name though.
But if we waive that then I might also vote for Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Could have seen Tom Hardy carrying it off.But if we waive that then I might also vote for Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Steven Lang is the guy. He was in Into the Badlands as well.
Ronnie Pickering would have been ideal

Vince Vaughn is 6'5" and he can certainly act. He's done serious stuff before, like True Detective and the remake of Psycho, where he played Norman Bates. He's about the right age too: 46.
Liev Schreiber would be great too.
Tom Cruise co-owns the production company though, so he gets to pick I guess.

Some dreadful suggestions for Reacher here (JUST being big isn't enough...), but Jim Cavaziel was a decent suggestion as he's very much how I picture Reacher (if a little too handsome) and he's very good in a Reacher-esque role in Person Of Interest.
That said, I'm looking forward to the new Cruise/Reacher film - For me the size thing isn't that important (except as a negative - He's hard not to spot, for example) and I think Cruise captured many of his attributes very well.
Funnily enough One Shot was the first Reacher I read too. I'd got a bit tired of the books after "Personal", but I've started A Wanted Man and am really enjoying it.
What I want to know is when someone's going to bring Ben Hope to the screen! Now there's a role made for Clive Owen!
