Just been to see it twice on consecutive days off away from home. Superb.

I wondered if the birthday drink between Kirk and Bones with a third glass was added after Anton had died or if it was a nod to Leonard. Either way Bones got the best lines in my opinion.

The only downside for me was the motorbike leap and the lack of depth as to why Krall had become what he was, it just didn't seem believable at all.

Did anyone else think the star drive section of the new Enterprise A at the end of the film in the time frame construction looked like it may have been rescued from the destruction of the Enterprise earlier in the film, presumably it just floated off ?

I thought the third glass was for Kirk's dad who died on Kirk's birthday.

You're probably right! There are so many nods to past ST films and episodes, I think I was missing the obvious.

I thought it was washed over a bit too much. But basically I think he was from the era where Starfleet advanced quickly to combat its enemies (Enterprise series) and he felt that progress would only come through suffering and pain.... I'm not sure if the planet and his rejuvenation caused a mental change as well as physical or whether it was the sense of abandonment that caused him to become anti-Federation?Also, were his 'troops' his old crew or the 'drones' that were left on the planet?

I quite enjoyed it, as an action flick. Some very good nods to the past, the 'photo' was quite nice to see and as mentioned Spock and Bones have been cast excellent, great performances from the pair of them, overall a very fun movie.

The bit towards the end with The Beastie Boys - Sabotage used as a weapon, was quite cringey and not at all Star Trek, but I actually quite liked it, nice tie back to the first film.
I was also disappointed that the new Enterprise didn't look more like the original 'A' Enterprise

I think the Nimoy tributes were wonderfully well handled and the photo moment was a really lovely touch. Not only did it fit the moment for Quinto's spock but it was also perfect for the viewer.

Overall I thought the movie was great. Reminded me of what Star Trek should be, fun, silly, with fantastic interplay with the crew (Urban and Quinto nail the Bones/Spock relationship so perfectly well). Overall you could clearly tell the movie had been co written by a MASSIVE Star Trek fan as the essence was plain to see. Better movie that "Into Darkness".

I was worried when they started talking about needing loud noises to disrupt the signal as you could see it coming but as it turned out the Beasty Boys bit was actually really fun. Kirk's face when it kicked in was great and when someone said "I that Classical Music?" hehe And that is a pretty badass song anyway so fitted the whole 'taking the fight to them' vibe of the move.

I also thought the Enterprise A was a nice balance between old and new with it's swept back nacelle struts

Also.... "For Anton" just stopped me dead when it appeared on screen cry
Yeah me too, the other poignant thing was the toast 'to absent friends', the next shot was of the group with Anton in the middle. Sad times.

Great film though, I'm going to watch it again!

Ill ask this here rather than start a new thread...

I have liked the 3 movies of the reboot so far but have never really sat down and invested time in any of the prior Star Trek stuff.

What do people recommend? Which series and films are definitely worth a watch? (considering I don't have time to watch all of it!)

in fact the one to avoid at all costs is V.... I is clunky by modern standards and quite frankly I suspect that these days it would have killed the franchise off

The original TV series is worth spending some time viewing. Ok so there were some dud episodes but there were some absolutely marvellous ones too. Ignore the polystyrene sets but enjoy the characters and the imagination of the "strange new worlds" and "new civilisations".

Star Trek V is proof that time travel does not exist frown

Went to see this out our new local cinema last night, whilst the seats were uncomfortable and even the second to last top row being too low for the screen height I enjoyed the film.

6.5/10 for me.

I'm going to go against the grain and say it was dull.

Also I know its Star Trek but why is everthing think solved by "rerouting power from the warp whatits to the plasma do-dahs"?

It would not be Star Trek if the did not reconfigure the discombobulator with an inverse gravitonicandicenolemon pulse.

Entertaining, but not really Star Trek.

ST is supposed to be a little bit cerebral. Beyond ain't that.

The more I think about it the more I'm disappointed. The bit with the wall-creating motorbike was absolutely ridiculous! It was the kind of thing that wouldn't have looked out of place in a road runner cartoon!

Wife and I have just watched it and found it dull, pointless and boring.

Shame.

My son and I went to see it last night.

Not as "Fast And Furious" as the trailer made it out to be and we both enjoyed it in a watched it, forgot it kind of way.

Effects are pretty great, there is a storyline and some of the characters are developed. For me, Karl Urban stole the screen as McCoy AGAIN, but it was a pleasant two hours.

As with the previous one though, the villain is one-dimensional.
