The BBC seems to have lost the plot. Olympics all evening on BBC1 and or BBC 2. And then you look at the BBnpC news website and its full spread Olympics all over. Not even the sport page, but the News headlines page.

I think they by far overestimate people's real intrest in the games. Blanket coverage of someone's obscure sports is a npbit much in my view.

I'll watch most sports all day long, but all the other members of the family couldn't really give a hoot.
The BBC should put this on one of their fringe channels.

Now, when's the men's fencing on?

It's once every 4 years. Although I was also similarly frustrated that my breakfast news was temporarily 'Olympic Breakfast' (I thought that was something you got from Little Chef).

Fencing was good, The Brit was narrowly beaten in the bronze medal match.

It's almost the only big sporting event they have left, I can see why they like to cheer themselves about it. I accept that for the London Olympics wall to wall coverage was fine but this does seem a little much.

The other bit of the problem is that most of the other channels have given up trying to compete when events like this are on. All we get are repeats or the same old staples because they're scared that anything new will get lousy ratings.

I love it to be honest. Two weeks every 4 years to engross yourself in random sports. And because they're not football we're often quite good at them :-)

I watched the team archery final last night, the Koreans brought their a - game and made the Americans look like amateurs!

As a sport fan I can agree. But most people aren't. Ok you'll usually have one event that you might be interested in, but not this wall to wall.

And cooking.

And cake in particular.

But no! That's back later on this month, delayed from its usual start point in the year until after the Olympics

Unfortunately wall to wall Clare balding....

At least Kate Humble hasn't been wheeled out again for another subject she's apparently always been hugely interested, excited and enthusiast about.

It's a couple of weeks though every four years.

But like any big event they cover, they treat it as though literally everyone is very very excited it's on.

My worst times are the Euros or World Cup... If I watch more than 5mins of either, it's too much. But very hard to avoid as its shoved down people's throats.

Oh yes. I find her really, really irritating. Almost as irritating as I find Helen Skelton - at least she has the redeeming feature that she's easy on the eyes.

Their obsession with the medal table and how "GB" is doing strikes me as totally hollow, given how for the rest of the time they're constantly doing the country down. That goes for Sky as well.

Good? Watching 2 prancing dandies trying to touch each other with a waggly stick.

Just to cheer you up a little more, in addition to the domination of the main channels, look further down the Sky TV channel guide and you will find around 16 (didn't actually count) new channels. All BBC olympics channels showing different sports.

You could always... y'know... do something else instead of watching TV if it bothers you that much. It's only a couple of weeks every 4 years and at least there is variety in the sport unlike the Euros/World Cup.

my thoughts also. Not interested myself and not seen any of it. Don't intend to. And why I don't watch BBC1 or 2 at all

I dont see the issue. In today's world of multiple channels, freeview, sky, box sets, films im sure you can find something else to watch.

Its one of the last free sporting events on TV, and with a multitude of sports they are trying to cover as much as possible. Also its a great way to introduce people to sports that they might never have tried or even heard of before.

A sound engineer mate is out there, judging by his updates am not sure he will survive til the paraolympics kick off and he seems to have a very decent T&E allowance most of which he is blowing on streak, cocktails and Brazilian ladies.
