Last I heard, BBC News has it's own dedicated TV channel. If you want news at any time you want it, you know where to go.

And, of course, there are other news channels available if BBC News isn't to your taste.

BBC gushing commentary way too patriotic. Ok we got gold. Yippee !

But do we really have to wait 15mins for the medal ceremony to discover which countries took silver and bronze ?
Here's the thing. We have many other athletes at these games that are not winning medals. Care to name any of them?

BBC is only interested in showing on the main broadcast only the events that team GB are winning medals in. Want to follow someone with less chance of being a 'hero'? You need to search the red button service and if you're lucky you might find them. Oh, and other countries are competing, but again, you only see the best of the best.
In the UK, what's the proportion of people who want to follow every single event compared to the proportion of people who want to see Brits doing well?

Yes, it's simple . Some folks on here seem a bit simple also.

No point in seeking relief over on ITV -

"ITV is set to switch off all seven of its channels for one hour to encourage the nation to take part in the UK’s ‘biggest ever sports day’ after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games wrap up.

The sports day event has been created in conjunction with the British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Sport and supported by Join In, and will take place on 27 August, a week after the end of the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The event has been designed to get the nation involved in sports by giving the public the opportunity to come together with Olympic heroes and famous faces from ITV on the day. Thousands of clubs across the UK will allow members of the public to participate in a wide range of sports free of charge on the day".

Simon Jenkins made me laugh:

"On Tuesday night the BBC went bananas. At 10 o’clock we were denied important news – of Anjem Choudary’s conviction, of swingeing tax fines and of possible “special status” for Britain outside the EU. Instead we had to sit for an hour and a half, waiting for three minutes of BBC pandemonium as British cyclists yet again pedalled fast. We had to watch while the BBC aired pictures of its own commentary box punching the air and howling. These were not so much journalists as state cheerleaders. I was touched, like everyone, by the Jason Kenny/Laura Trott “golden love bond”, but how many times did I need to see them in tears? It was a total collapse of news values, the corporation peddling tabloid chauvinist schlock."

I like to see Simon Jenkins get apoplectic.

I'm sure he'll be relived when it's all over and his heart rate can settle back down to normal levels.

What a total cockwomble! We are assaulted by bad news all the time. Let's celebrate success for a while before we all have to go back to being miserable again once parliament decide to sit again and fk everything up even further!!!

When I saw that ITV announcement earlier the first thing I thought is that it's nothing more than a marketing / promotional box ticking gesture tbh. It's happening between 9.30am & 10.30am on a Saturday morning and in that time slot there's nothing of relevance broadcast anyway.

This weekend for instance, ITV1 broadcasts Murder She Wrote, ITV2 has a Coronation Street omnbibus, ITV3 has Where The Heart Is, ITV4 has The Sweeney, ITVBe is showing Real Housewives of Orange County and CITV is showing numerous overseas cartoons, so it's not as though they are actually disrupting their broadcasting tbh.

Their gesture would be far more genuine at a peak time of day if they really wanted to encourage people away from the TV.

More than 7 going by this and that doesn't include the +1 stuff.

Regarding ITV, you could probably say that about their entire schedule.

I like how people become instant experts after watching 5 minutes of watching something obscure like merkin topiary.
Always good fun family viewing.
My 60+ mother was critiquing the diving, she can't even swim.

I wish they'd tone down the obsession with medals though and maybe leave the coverage to the sports section, especially on the news homepage.

I had the 24hr rolling news on in the background the other day and you'd think there was t anything else happening in the world.

700,000 people starving to death in Aleppo, and BBC TV news and website both lead with medals and our wonderful medal tally:

Great stuff GB, (watched the triathlon and loved it) but really? 700,000 dying and you lead with two blokes from Yorkshire who do sport?

Out of interest, see what EVEN the USA news put as top their top spot (abc, fox etc - check them out). Not sport, even though they won more medals than us.

Why BBC do you put sport before real news?

Lets be honest do people care about 700,000 people dying in a place not many know where it is, and also millions are dying somewhere every day and that's not reported neither.

Its not even 3 weeks of sports something different from all the doom and gloom.

As someone who has watched zero minutes of boring sport, I'd rather real news. I can barely stand 3 minutes of sport.

To be honest, telling us that there STILL 700,000 people starving in Aleppo is not really news any more.

And I reckon there will be still 700,000 people starving in Aleppo when the Olympics end this weekend.

Good for you but the news is the same all the time either doom and gloom about a failing economy, a terrorist attack somewhere in Europe or yet another attack in the middle east. And its not like the 24hr news programes aren't showing real news all the time on a repeat.
