I've just finished watching the womens hockey, great result and good analysis from the profs, Mel Clewlow and Simon Mason, on the BBC but I really have had enough of Richi Persad! His formulaic reporting, analysis and banal questions have done my head in. I can't stand that "how does it make you feel" and "family" approach, sorry mate but ask questions about quality, hard work, gladiatorial encounter, world-class encounter or shut up.

Oh, and the obsession is becoming one I agree. All sorts of stuff going on locally and around the world which should be on the front page. Olympics is sports front page with the odd halo event/announcement IMO

Only two days left.

Do you think there are any BBC staffers / contractors that haven't been to Rio lately?

Yep. Every one I know is still here in rainy Manchester.

He's just as st at the horse racing; I've had a few trips with a 1st mate who was a racing nut and during the Cheltenham festival every time I came off watch he'd be there in the lounge yelling at the TV. Persad was easily the most irritating of the commentators.

That's their problem; they work in the provinces somewhere other than London.

After the huge collective hissy fit over the move to Salford is it any surprise?

With the BBC being a much larger organisation than just sport, is that a surprise? I took your post to imply the standard "they're all on a gravy train jolly on my tax bill". All I was saying is that the poeple I know aren't in on whatever jolly that was implied.

Aplogies if I got the wrong end of the stick - this is a fairly polarised pro-bbc / anti-bbc thread =)

I have to say well done Clare Balding for her interviews with the womens hockey team, Lutalo Muhammad and the 4x100 girls this evening. Quality questions, insight and unashamed enthusiasm. Well done and well done to the athletes for their performances too, great stuff!

It's been a tour de force for the BBC. They do such things well.

I've been excited and enthused by the sports. I'm wondering if it might be because of the overwhelming performance of our team and the medal total. Perhaps I'm that shallow, but perhaps I don't care.

Love the 58-year-old with the gold.

Nick Skelton, wife and I have been watching him since the Horse of the Year show and Grandstand on the BBC since the late 70s. Truly olympic-class effort and an interesting back story too.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the coverage of the Olympics. I have watched so many different events and become engrossed in many I would never normally give the time of day.

I am not a sports fan per say but I appreciate the efforts these Olympians have put in to get there. I am going to miss it.

And it is 2 weeks every four yrs, really sad to moan about that isn't it really?!!

Dan Walker BBC4, was brilliant.

Well done BBC, a job well done imo. (except the random channel hopping!)

I was impressed by the 54yr old Argentinian who won the Nacra 17 sailing; that would be impressive enough on its own but he's survived lung cancer to boot!
