Never seen it, and not sure if I could bring myself to watch it, but "Grave of the fireflies" is meant to be very good also.

Max Manus: Man of War.

Based on a true story about a Norwegian resistance fighter at the outbreak of WW" and the Nazi occupation of Norway. A lot of the movie is based on his own book and the accounts of others and is apparently very historically accurate.

I enjoyed "The Big Picture", based on the book of the same name by Harlan Coben. Not sure what it is about his stuff that leads to it being filmed in French with subtitles, one I keep meaning to watch but have never got round to is "Tell No One", and I think he announced there's another film being made, also in French.
