Agreed. Moonraker was much better than Octopussy IMO. Suspend disbelief and enjoy it for what it is.

A (fairly preposterous) James Bond film. Keep up at the back.

I like Moonraker too, top baddie with some great lines.
Yes, Drax was the redeeming feature of that movie. One of my favourite Bond baddie lines ever: "Mr Bond, you appear with the tedious regularity of an unloved season."
Indeed, one of thebest Bond baddies. Fantastic.
Frederick Gray! What a surprise. And in distinguished company, all wearing gas masks. You must excuse me, gentlemen, not being English, I sometimes find your sense of humour rather difficult to follow!

It's better than "Die Another Day"

Whilst it is completely silly, I do really believe it has my favourite pre-credit sequence.
I think that the Bond team realised that they had gone a bit too far with "Moonraker". Their next production, "For Your Eyes Only" was a much more sober affair.
That was going to be Roger's fourth, but Star Wars made them flip Moonraker instead. ALso, from what I recall For Your Eyes Only was originally conceived with Tim in mind, but he passed on Bond a few years earlier. alas.

Should have been called "Carry on Bond".
At least some of the 'Carry On' films had a believable plot...

True - I didn't mean to cast a slur on the "Carry On...." series.

I detest "Moonraker" and consider it the nadir of the Bond films.
The annoying bit is that the book of 'Moonraker' is some of Flemings' best writing, the description of 'Blades' casino, the cars, the car chase, Drax going full retard telling his story and the gritty down-beat ending.

The film is just god awful in every possible way.

Almost right - except I would substitute the term "TOTALLY preposterous" (along with a few more derogatory adjectives).

Jaws says "to us" when the two clink champagne glasses at the end I believe his only ever spoken line in any of the films.
Yep. "Well, here's to us." is the actual line.

I heard those teeth of his were a living hell for Richard Kiel. You know that horrible galvanic reaction you get in your mouth when you accidentally get some metal foil in there, like from a kit kat or something? Apparently he felt that all the time those teeth were in. I can't imagine many things worse.

What a horrible thought!!! I have waaaaay more fillings than I should, & just the smallest metallic object feels like being electrocuted! What a top bloke Kiel was though....
Oh, & to those dissing Moonraker: you know nothing!

One of the problems with Moonraker was bringing Jaws back, never mind making him the comic relief!

No - it means we detested what they had done - simple.

The fact that the next film in the series was far more down to earth (literally) shows that the franchise holders realised they had made a terrible mistake.

They saw the success of "Star Wars" and panicked into thinking that Bond had to be rejigged to make it look like a sci-fi space opera.

"Moonraker" is a "spoof" Bond - almost as spoofy as the equally terrible 1967 "Casino Royale".

They left no room in his mouth, they pushed his tongue to the back of his mouth and constantly put him in gag reflex mode....ergh.

Moonraker is a travelogue; go to this place, action scene...go to this place, action scene...go to this place, action scene. The Borne films remind of this type of travelogue film making.

Well I like it. No it's not the best bond and yes it is clownish but it's redeeming features save it. Has some nice touches and yes one of if not the best ba guy performances

Now if you were taking about die another day then well you'd have a point.

Moonraker was great. No doubt helped by the fact i was about 8 when i saw it.
Watched it recently and still one of my favourites.

Ill raise your die another day as the worst bond and give you a view to a kill. Woeful.
AVTAK is only woeful due to the fact Rog was already about 150 years old when they made it. Well past his sell by date for the role rolleyes

Moonraker is a bit of twaddle but has one massive redeeming feature by way of its opening song.
Shirley Bassey singing a John Barry composition cloud9

And he certainly wasn't helped by the cardboard cutout that doubled as his 'Bond girl', either - truly dismal.

Very close to the bottom of the franchise rankings, IMO.
