What's your single, most favourite film of all time?

Not the greatest film by any measure, but it is my favourite.
Not just because of this, the best opening credits imo ever.

Not just because the soundtrack is fantastic.
No reason at all really, but it's my favourite (beating The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink in a 'photo finish).
A Matter Of Life And Death and It's A Wonderful Life are brilliant, but I would still pop this one in the DVD player first.

Shawshank - blew me away as a young un and I can still watch it two days on the bounce if it's on.
Simply a masterpiece in all ways, the emotional attachment you feel for Andy, rooting for him to get out is unsurpassed.
I think time of life and how impressionable you are to a genre or story is a big factor. I cannot imagine seeing my new favourite film at my time of life now.

"that bit of wool on your tit". Excellent choice and probably mine too, having experienced a not entirely dissimilar schooling...minus killing everyone! Mary Macleod who played the housemaster's wife died over the summer (obituary here https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jun/13/mary-...[quote=nicanary]Interestingly, nobody has yet mentioned what is often cited as the best film ever made. Citizen Kane. Which suggests that polls aren't always accurate.
I like Westerns, the old sort. The Man who shot Liberty Vallance. High Noon. The Searchers.[/quote
Citizen Kane is technically a great film, but I find it soulless.
