Started watching it last night and it was absolutely fascinating.

Will watch the rest of it this evening. Interesting at the beginning when talking about Assad and Kissenger.

I'm about half way through, it's a very long essay.

I liked his Bitter Lake film and this is essentially more of that, you do have to be a bit careful though, the segments on their own seem to be very accurate and full of correct detail and analysis but the lines he draws between individual segments can be a bit wibbly.

Quick summary of doc by Adam Curtis: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37673...

Finished watching it last night.

Fascinating and thought provoking even though at times it was like throwing in random conspiracy theories as fact.

Way better than Bitter Lake - first half was padding from what I remember.

Russell Brand recently recommended it - I wonder Brand has a brain or paid attention to it as Curtis was having a pop at people like Brand who shouts but offer no solutions but then again Curtis enlisted help from 3D of Massive Attack....

Very interesting and thought-provoking stuff but, as per other comments, not as good as some of his previous stuff and very scattergun approach. Possibly being on iPlayer meant that the 2hrs45mins runtime wasn't edited down as much as it should have been!

It does go a bit like this...

- Some bad stuff happened in Syria.
- Some bad stuff happened in Libya
- Hey what about that UFO craze in the 90's!
- let's get back to the terrorists...

But nevertheless some good brain-food.

I think the UFO bit was used to show that the powers that be can make you think a particular way in that there was a govt guy telling a UFO conspircy theorist that he was right in a sort of mis-directing kind of way. So it was relevant to the way that govts misdirect whilst hiding in plain sight... sort of. Also the computer bit, psych analyst program proved that people feel better when they get to hear what they want hear even if it's Bste and doesn't actually give an answer to a problem.

Maybe!
Yeah i get it, I was simply highlighting that the dots are not very well joined and its arguably just a list of examples without a clear hypothesis or conclusion...nonetheless, enjoyed it.

I'm still 3/4 of the way through this, and am really impressed. Just occasionally I like my TV to challenge perceptions and get my brain thinking and this ticks a lot of boxes.

It's a bit of a wandering diatribe, but the stuff on the Middle East is excellent.

Was a bit wild and wooly at times making connections where there weren't any really. But I thought the stuff on Ghadaffi and Libya was good.

I agree. More power to him, but I'd prefer him to do something shorter and simpler for blokes like me. Though I really liked it, I'd struggle to tell anyone what it was about.

HyperNormalisation features the extremely complex Russian propaganda machine invented by Vladislav Surkov

A year after it's release Surkov publishes a novel called "Ultranormality", seems like epic trolling to me

Very funny indeed, however it does seem a little unfair considering so much of what he predicted has been borne out by Trump

On the other hand BoJo's attempts at firehosing seem a bit amateur in comparison

I was only thinking the other day that this current situation we are in will make an excellent Adam Curtis film.

This is great news smile

Watched the first one last night. I think.... errrr... I may have to watch it again with a little less red wine in me in order to get the true grasp of it.
