Hi All

Got a networking (basic) question i need help with.

I've got VM with a Superhub which is in the Garage part of my house (home office) I used to run this in Modem mode via some Ethernet into the main house to run a linksys wireless router which ran all things in my home WiFi and wired.

Now the question, I've had to turn the modem mode off to enable WiFi on my "office" and 2 other wired devices PC and Work laptop (docked).
So I've now 2 networks in theory, what I wanted to do ideally is have 1 network throughout the house.

Only way I can see this happening is to run an Ethernet back from the house router into a network switch or wireless AP in the office and putting VM back in modem mode, problem is getting another Ethernet through the various walls, it will be tricky.

Is there another solution? I've read a network switch straight of the modem would not work?

Open to any suggestions which could assist .

Thanks

GreigM

You can run a cable from the superhub to a switch and run more devices from there.

Why does it matter if it's one network ?

You can run two wireless networks and you'll be able to automatically connect to the one that's providing the strongest connection so if you stroll into the house it'll connect to your Linksys.

Do you have any visibility of the Linksys wifi from the garage - if so you could run something like an Airport Express to extend the wifi network from the house.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm not good with the Quotes

Greig.
The garage is on a separate ring to the house, does this matter?

Can I do superhub to switch then router and leave superhub in modem mode?

Ideally wanted 1 network as both networks are accessible in the house, back end side, so if I try and watch something on my sky q app it's doesn't bring up my recording because it's on a different network to the sky q box,

I do see linksys in the garage but very very weak and will drop, need good connection in there as my work have moved from traditional con calls to Skype or lync

Thanks

Leave the superhub in modem mode.

Move the router in to the office.

Put a switch in the house, connected to the router via the existing wiring, which you then connect a wireless access point and all your other wired stuff in to.

Depends which superdud it is, 1 and 2 are utter crap, the 3 is actually ok.

The other option is to turn off DHCP on the Linksys and connect it to one of the switch ports on the back of the Superdud.

Superdud 2 unfortunately, was promised a 3 last year but they struggled with demand, they sent me another 2 instead.

I tried changing the setting on the router when I last tried to do this, apparently its not that clued up a router (Linksys EA6300) and struggles with anything mildly not out the box, its just the SKY Q thing that's got me back on it.

Ive only got a Blue ray player that is hard wired now in the house, thinking of just running a wireless AP from the superhub and can get rid of the Linksys
