Awesome program, cannot believe the patience the camera crews must have, or the stench of the penguins.

From what I saw, the Penguins smelled better than the Sulphor from the volcano.....

How on earth do they film in those territories such as the snake scene? How do they stand around and film without snake attack? How do they film that chase or any scene without disrupting anything? Drone? What're they using to film without bekng seen?
I was thinking that about the Komodo scene as anyone who ever watched Steve Irwins stuff will know that Komodos can and will attack people, we're just food to them.

He's literally just standing feet away from about 20 fast as f**k snakes. Are they mad?

Same with the chap who mentioned above about komodos, pretty dangerous.

Most snakes are no threat to people - Those were tiny baby Iguanas, so the snakes are pretty small too.

They'd be hard pressed to crush your finger!

Just looked up a few "stats" and they're only 2ft long, it's just the long lens and small iguana size which makes them look "bigger" than they actally are.

I don't care how long they are.
I still don't fancy 30+ of them chasing me across a beach.

A nature expert guy was on the Simon Mayo R2 show last night, conversation got to Planet Earth 2 and the iguana/snakes scene. His opinion of it was that it was an amazing bit of film, but as snakes aren't pack hunters and can't share the same kill because they swallow whole, unless there were more iguanas than snakes, the show probably skipped the bit where the second snake to get to an iguana gets to eat the iguana and the first snake together.

Stunning first episode. When Mrs Dub16v and I were out in the Galapagos in the summer for our honeymoon we met one of the rangers that contributed to the programme, very interesting guy (and my dream job!)

"The incredible new six-part series was filmed over 117 shoots in 40 countries, using gyro-stablilised cameras, drones and even paragliders to capture the best shots.

The hatchling marine iguanas’ great escape was filmed from the air by drones, and on the ground by two cameramen – one with a tripod and long lens for close-ups, the other with a hand-held unit."

Think they often make temporary shelters that the cameraman hide in too, so not seen by the wildlife.

Yeah, pretty much - Takes years to make these kind of series... Would Netflix or Amazon bother?

My wife watched this with me and when it finished said "Well, was there anything really new there?".

I thought that a bit harsh, some of the camera work (the swinging Sloth for example) was excellent and different to what PE1 offered, but there's only so many remarkable nature events you can capture, it's more a case of how.

That said, I'd never seen or heard of the Racer Snakes before, that was pretty remarkable!
