To get sky do you need an internet connection or phone line? 5yrs on we hadn't bothered. 4g on my phone and a week at work sat on a PC I'm no fan of replicating at home.
No, just a dish. Although you will miss the catch up facilities if you don't have an internet connection.

After 14 years I have just this morning cancelled as well - my contract ends in January. Wasn't paying as much as some people, £59 but we watch more on Netflix. I'll add Amazon and probably a Kodi box. Haven't told the wife yet, no doubt she'll not be too impressed as she watched a lot on Sky Atlantic!

We quit sky for freesat (Humax) about 4 years ago, haven't missed it a bit. My kids have a now TV box for iPlayer etc.
I did exactly that nearly 10 years ago. The Humax box has been faultless in all that time!
I've got an LG smart TV, with Netflix & iPlayer. Also got a Chromecast, with BT Sport & Google Play Music. Stuff Sky!!

So what sort of response did you get from them ?
'Thanks and goodbye' or did they try and offer you a deal ?

Not much of a deal to be honest - about £10 a month off my tv package but nothing off HD or Multiroom.

Trouble is, if they don't call do i then have to sheepishly call them a few days before the cancellation saying I've changed my mind and that offer of a deal £10 cheaper a month sounds great now paperbag

Jesus...£150 a month - wow, and wow again.
Anyway - they WILL call you back.
Cancelling with me saying 'no thanks' at every opportunity took 25 minutes.
They act like you're asking them to end your life - they're very good at looking for any ounce of doubt in your voice, so you have to be strong.
They then rang back after two days, and then again after 4 days.
My subs end on 3rd December, but I guess they may try again.
I'll keep note.
What have they offered you to stay?

My girlfriends ordered us sky for moving in to our house. I didn't want it but she said the deal she got was amazing for new customer.
Got a letter yesterday - everything we had before for £12 a month for 12 months (down from £32).
Not going back of course...but I'll keep the thread updated with the deals they offer. I can't imagine it'll drop much below that though.

I finally called today, been putting it off as I knew it wasn't going to be a quick call.
It's now down to £87 (from £149) although that does include binning one of our Sky boxes (we don't need it really as the extra channels it provides were hardly ever used)) so I'm pleased enough with that.
Maybe I could have got it cheaper if I'd cancelled but while talking she offered a deal that included some TV functions (pause, rewind, record etc) and 'some' channels that actually came in less than if I just had the phone and broadband so I think I'd have looked daft (and they probably knew my 'game' anyway) if I'd said to just cancel all TV but keep the phone & broadband.

Just had that email this morning.

They're getting desperate.

But not tackling the reason I left. The unreliable boxes. I asked for a new specification box but had 2 older refurbished which both died as did my original.

They kept offering yet another box and more money off my monthly fee, but wouldn't discuss decent hardware.

Binned sky in the summer. Had a call almost daily which I ignored. Finally when I did answer I told them I had bought a over and was sticking with free sat. No calls since biggrin

PVR not over!

Id have cancelled and taken out a friends and family Q deal. Ours is 70nquid a month inc fibre max 80/20!

Did the same for a month and then signed back up when they offered me my entire original package (HD, Movies, Sports) for £36 a month on a 12 month contract, down from the £90 a month we were paying.

Found BT TV rubbish TBH. Not very intuitive to use, lacking in channels and just a bit crap. Only gets used now if there's something on the 4K sport channel I want to watch and for the Netflix app. Managed to get it for about £5 a month as have Infinity 2 broadband but wouldn't have been happy with it had it cost much more.

Sky are pricey but from a usage and content standpoint they are still way ahead IMHO.

What is 'a over'?

a cover?

a dover?

a hover?

ah! a lover!

a mover?

a rover?

No. it's no good. I give up. What is 'a over'?

I'm surprised she didn't mention Sky Q although did you have to pay an initial fee for that ? I think she could tell from my tone that I wasn't prepared to shell out more money to 'save' money.

I think it was 15 quid setup for the Q system
Then 30 or 40 quid activation for the Fibre

Assuming you already have the broadband setup i cant see how it would have cost you much at all.

You cant get "old" sky hd anymore so surprised they are keeping you on the old hardware.

Wow, I had no idea people were paying so much for TV. I currently pay 0, I would rather be outside or in a gym.
