Better. Best so far. Actually looking forward to the next one.

Not sure what the moving tent brings to it yet, but there's plenty of time...

That was a lot better, I didn't get bored!

Had no problem with the Hammond gag, although they maybe played it a touch too long.
a touch? flogged to boring death more like
True, I wouldn't have minded a balance but the whole feature seemed to revolve around Hammond making the whole tour a misery for Clarkson and May. Also that Dodge is the American equivalant of "a bit council"

Aside from that fact that they're both motoring-based entertainment shows of circa 1 hour long, presented by the same three people, scripted by Richard Porter, and produced by Andy Willman.

No other than that, chalk and cheese.

It'd be like Soggy Bottom Berry, Mel and Sue joining forces with a new grey-haired celebrity chef, and starting a new show called "The British Bake Showdown"... Because nobody would compare it back to GBBO.
Funny enough the GBBO started out with the tent moving to a new place every week, then they got bored of that idea biggrin

Very true... It must have been costing a fortune to keep relocating the set/tent, ovens, generators, lighting, crew etc.

Comparing these first 3 EPs of TGT to BBC TG is laughable, there is no comparison.

Ok, that's fair enough, but what I mean is

The Grand Tour is a far better show in my opinion than BBC's top gear^. It just feels familiar (in a good way) and is lovely care free entertainment.

^Mainly because of Chris Evans being a tt, the first episode of BBC new TG will stay in my mind as one of the most cringe worthy piece of televised motoring I can recall.

It seems that first episode of New TG was their downfall. A lot of people wrote it off on that one episode alone. At least they quickly reacted to feedback, considering the studio segments were filmed less than a week in advance. Grand Tour can't do the same as it's all filmed months in advance, but hopefully they'll take any criticism on board for the next series.

I just can't get my head around the excessive arse kissing of The Grand Tour. Top Gear was getting ripped to bits for years, yet The Grand Tour carries on in a similar fashion and gets praised to the hilt.

The new Top Gear got ripped to bits within 5 minutes and it was relentless after that with people obsessing with figures in the Sun. There was no excuses that it was a new team finding their feet. On the other hand the Grand Tour has started off with an experienced team, copied everything they could from Top Gear, have offered nothing new, look uneasy and unnatural with all the scripting being so obvious, yet it's amazing or requires time to grow.

The first episode was good, the second episode was awful and this week's episode was also crap. I genuinely must be missing what others are finding funny and entertaining. The Grand Tour is vastly inferior to what Top Gear used to be.

I can't see the next series of Top Gear not being a match. Evans appears to be the reason many people got upset and he's now gone. Hopefully lessons are learned and they improve. I didn't actually find new Top Gear that bad at all. A number of episodes were better than what The Grand Tour has served up so far.

Maybe, just maybe, people enjoyed TGT and didn't enjoy TG 3.0? silly

Is that so hard for you to get your head around?

Just caught up on the first three episodes and... oh dear, not great is it?

Some nice visuals and a few entertaining bits, but it's all a bit shouty and crap. I was expecting better.
Odd that Evans was vilified for being 'shouty' - TGT seems even shoutier yet not a peep from the shout-averse?

People didn't even give new Top Gear a chance. It was written off before it even started and it was a competition to post how fast they changed channel.

If you go with the mindset that you are going to like or hate something, you probably will.

The obsession to prove how bad Top Gear was usually meant referring to trash tabloid paper comments and dwindling audience numbers. Often the reasons for bashing the show didn't actually have much to do with the content.

New Top Gear was slated for copying the same format of old Top Gear. The Grand Tour is praised for being very similar to Top Gear when it's supposed to be a new show.

I just find it strange that I'm reading the same people contradicting themselves when arguing between Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

I watched every episode of BBC new TG as well as every episode of Extra Gear.

It did end up being a pretty good show.
But I prefer the "old" TG as well as TGT because of the 3 characters at the helm, they're just funny to watch.

If you don't like it I suspect cancelling your Prime account will save you £70+ a year and a lot of moaning. smile

Moaning? I'm offering my opinion and not said anything unjust. Why so touchy and defensive?

Reading your opinion above you're one that appears to be blinkered. You've already been pulled up for that. You failed to see the comparisons between the two shows when they are very similar.

I bet most of the people watching it are doing so for free anyway.

I'll continue to watch the show and enjoy the good parts. There will be plenty of good parts. I won't join in the the excessive arse kissing and get involved with smart arse jibes or comments against people with a differing opinion.

You speak for all people do you? I watched every episode of Top Gear 3.0 with Chris Evans, and I much prefer The Grand Tour.

Have a little read through all the comments pages and threads for Top Gear.

You'll see a recurring theme.

It is slightly better than #2.

I mean, I have prime anyway, so will probably continue to watch it regardless, but more in the 'car-crash' mentality rather than actually enjoying it. Unless if gets better ofc! smile

I think someone up the thread got it - it's good, but there's something missing. Almost like they have nearly the same production team as they used to, but (for example) a key scriptwriter is no longer there to reign in the relentless hammering on the same point making it tedious rather than funny.

This +1 from me as well.
It's easy watching, episode 3 the best of the bunch so far for me. Some parts so far have had me laughing, some parts have had me reaching for my laptop to do something else for a few mins.
I watched all the Evans's TG and TGT still trumps it though, the presenters are in a different league (IMO).

I thought the Italian tour would have had 3 Italian cars - it's not as though they're short of a few desirable models over there wink
