I am also a fan but agree with some of the Guardian article. To me it sometimes seems that they are trying too hard and I suspect series two, when they have worked out what did and didn't work, will be better. As for "killing" the celebrities - I find this mildly amusing as it is clearly an ongoing pop at the BBC lawyers who have presumably stopped them doing anything involving real celebrities. I haven't watched episode 4 yet as I am tending to watch these in the traditional Sunday evening slot and I have to say that, after a nice roast dinner and several glasses of wine, the show goes down just fine.

And dare I say it, GT is not as good as the Chris Evans Top Gear????
Well.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gear_(series_23)

Here are my stand out parts from that series
675LT
R8
F12TDF
Focusrs/Civic/AMG45 hot hatch test
Block in London
Tesla X
Vulcan at Abu Dhabi
M2
Rolls Royce film (old v new)
Mustang
911R
NSX
Modernised classics (db5 etc)

Don't get me wrong. Evans was not a good fit for the show.

But the cinematography/content in these films were more than a match for anything I've seen with Grand Tour. As we've all pointed out. This is NOT a new show. It's just more of the same. Which bizarrely for the increased budget feels less quality than even Series 22 of BBC TG

I'm just watching it now. The cinematography on the 911 GT3RS piece is amazing

Absolutely. Could be great if they just stopped acting, and just talked.
Agreed, it's bang on.
Agree with most of that article.

Fortunately ep4 was way better than ep2.

Who gives a toss what those idiots at the Guardian think?
Let them have their little whinge....we'll just crack on and enjoy the programme.
Now imagine that it was in the Daily Mail or on Breitbart and read it again

Better?

I'm interested to hear the views here but it is spoiling the shows for me a little as I'm now being very picky myself over their poor attempts to follow a script. They may have been wooden on TG but I didn't notice and cared less.

Re episode 4, I find myself agreeing with many of the comments here. Really felt uncomfortable with the maggot infested car though but that's enough on Hammond in the TT.

Re the BBC and the criticism it gets from many places, many just don't understand that the BBC is public service broadcasting. The license is an outmoded method of paying for it and to pick on the 90% of the stuff that we individually feel is crap is just missing the point.

Darn right the "license fee" is an outmoded vehicle. Being forced to pay it if you have the cheek to watch a live broadcast made by a competitor is absurd . Time the BBc were made to adopt a voluntary subscription model, might make them produce material that people at large want, not what they seem to think they want. Reason I let my license, lapse, I just did'nt watch BBC output. I only watch streamed services now.

As for TGT , I'm thoroughly enjoying it, not much interested in its specifics, but it holds my attention for that hour or so, and amuses me, so, it works for me, hopefully much more to follow.

I think the thing that makes the Tent bits awkward are all the close ups on each one of them whenever they say anything, it would benefit from puling back a bit or even a shot of all three when talking it would make it more natural and less forced (scripted).

Just watched ep 4.
I have to say I really enjoyed it....well 14 minutes of it.
The other 1hr 4 minutes were frankly embarassing.
Episode 4 is 62 minutes long, not 78. Were you watching the wrong show? biggrin
Well it said it said episode 4 on the title and as the content included a great test of GT3RS and M4GTS followed by a load of cringeworthy tat in a field I'm pretty sure it was the 'right' show. Strange though how it was exactly 1hr 18.... perhaps it was playing at less than full speed...explaing how the over long unfunny bits felt that much more excrutiating.
Either way fast forwarding the tat meant I only wasted half an hour biggrin

Have been pretty underwhelmed so far but yesterday's episode was particularly meh...
I was surprised when it got the end, I thought to myself, is that it?? 10 minutes to review (in no depth whatsoever) the Porsche and BMW, and the rest of the show was just filled with crap. The challenge had some funny bits but overall didn't inspire me or teach me anything, not did I get to see some interesting scenery. And what was the point of the TT bit???
I'm worried things won't improve either as I suspect the whole season has already been filmed.

Considering they are going to the trouble of moving the tent around and ending up in locations such as below (tent looks so small!), it really is staggering they are not using the locations properly or for anything really.

I couldn't stand th 675LT part, purely because of Evans. He was so, so shouty and irritating. A shame as I love the car. My favourite piece from the new TG was the Rolls-Royce Dawn review.

The point being, surely, that if people were to just 'stop watching' then it gets pulled at the first opportunity. Amazon aren't a charity. Paradoxically, people watching it, hating it and commenting on it are probably going to keep the GT afloat.
A few whingers on PH are not going to get this stopped. Its global, and it fills the gap the BBC have left wide open from TGs former global audience.

Stopped watching at the 'Meat Car' moment on account of not being 10 years old, which seemed to be its level.

First bit was ok though

True, but it doesn't stop a lot of people questioning where the hell the £4.5 million spent on each episode has actually gone

Having just watched ep.4 I would agree that, so far, it is worse than Evans Top Gear. I wonder when Amazon will start getting nervous and start demanding changes? (which will probably make it worse)
