If you like it because of them and would watch them whatever they presented then that's fine.
But lets not pretend the content so far is in any way 'better' than the content of Evans' TG. I'd argue to date, the actual car testing, chat and variety is significantly worse.

It hasn't moved on from TG, if anything it has got worse.
We lambasted Evans for his shouting and stupid antics, but the show still had a TG feel.
Now we have an equally silly set of presenters acting like 10 year olds on GT. We still enjoy the test bits, the car reviews cinematography, but the replacement bits which are copyrighted to BBC : SIRPC and Stig just fail miserably.
BBC could quite easily rival Amazon with the next series of TG! Just by getting the right mix of presenters.
Amazon has not blown the BBC away with GT, do you think they have added millions more Prime members since the first episode.. judging by the reviews on forums and most websites... I doubt it.

Also I didn't know until they indirectly mentioned that May has a Speciale and I did some googling last night that Ferrari made one extra car for him after he missed the order slots! And it's orange with gold wheels, like his shirts the man has a quality taste in his cars.

I see what you are getting at but going down voluntary subscription would then produce programs that won the most subscribers. Public service broadcasting is about giving something for most people. Even the nutters like me who like Miranda and Mrs Brown, I mean nutters like my friend.
The license fee currently pays for an infrastructure service, like any other government service. Just stick it on some other tax so we all pay. Plenty of other things we have to all pay for whether we use it or not.
I would hate to see the BBC go down a subscription service, it would be worse than it is now and probably not survive.
As for TGT, I like the subscription model for that on Amazon.

But the fact is that PH are the target audience. And if we don't like it, and even the anti car, anti Clarkson nuts at Guardian don't like it (and I agree with their assessment of the series so far) then it's not long for this world. And that would be a shame, as it has the massive potential to be awesome!

I'm sure it came to no harm.But, if it has just been a normal run of the mill small furry type thing. It would have felt a damn site more natural than a clearly planted one and their faux surprise.

And I daresay more people on PH watch TG or TGT than the general public. Who actually will stop watching it if it doesn't entertain them. Those viewers wont even give it a second chance unlike the posters here

This is what they do, it is all they know how to do. These are not 20 somethings developing themselvest, they are at their peak. Most of the team came over for TopGear, including the Script Editor.
The only way it could be different would be to bring in a new team of writers rather then letting them do what they enjoy, at which point May would probably get bored and leave.
The hedge bit was poor, otherwise was a decent show. It is just entertainment.

And lastly, are they actually enjoying the show in the same way they enjoyed old CHM TG?
I'm beginning to think it's people that watch crap sit coms on BBC or ITV are the target audience. The idea that a show can be well scripted, intelligent and funny seems alien to the target audience

FWIW I think TGT has been disappointing so far and at this rate I'm not likely to renew my subscription.
