A 9.1 on IMDB is quite impressive. Plenty of great TV series with lower ratings than that.

The majority of the comments about the show are negative. That doesn't read well to me.

Amazon don't want to mention anything about viewing figures. They won't state how many are watching or how many they anticipated.

How do you form the opinion they are doing quite well? Without insider knowledge it doesn't read to me that they are doing very well.
I think Amazon have stated that its their biggest ever audience for episode 1. How thats translated further on, who knows.

I just find that the way to watch this show is to watch the bits on cars and fast forward the other stuff. I start each little jaunt piece, and if its crap I skip it. I watched almost none of the bahamas piece, but watched the Alfa piece twice. Best way.

Before TGT people never mentioned IMDB for any other tv show. Now the IMDB means everything. People are signing up to IMDB to justify TGT. I also can't help but think many of the reviews are fake.

TG had as much as 350m viewers and only managed 84,000 over 15 years. TGT has been on for a couple of months, had 1.95m viewers for the first week, yet has 28,000 reviews already.

Looking at other mainstream TV shows on IMDB and many of them don't have many reviews at all.

Why is the IMDB that important to TGT? I find it strange that so many people have signed up to the IMDB to review it.

9+ on IMDB is the absolute cream of shows and films. I know people have a differing opinion on how good TGT is, but it just isn't close to the best TV or film ever.

As someone pointed out earlier in this thread it's actually Amazon who own the IMDB.

Have you ever been on IMDB and rated a TV show?

I know I certainly haven't, and the M stands for Movie.

Strange.

Odd that it's doing better than The Simpsons.

Presumably Google only deal in obscure numbers, Microsoft only sells small software and John Lewis only sell a guy from the American civil rights movement.

I haven't rated TV or films on it. Strange indeed.

Ok, bored of that now, but maybe you get the point.

I'm open to better measures of video content.

So IMDB has been mentioned more times in this single thread than it has in 8 years of Pistonheads? Each of those threads hardly stirs much reaction.

The stand out comment after a quick scan.

Sorry guys I have to dissagree.

As most people who vote on IMDB are 10 YO Americans you cannot trust their ratings. Just read some of teh comments on one of your favourite films.

You didn't get the point then.

No. Google suggests IMDB has been mentioned on nearly 4000 pages on Pistonheads.

Trying to discredit IMDB really is a very desperate approach to slating TGT.

What is your point? Having searched Pistonheads for IMDB most mentions of it fail to even get a reaction.

Why is the IMDB more important to TGT fans than most other shows?

Do you not think that it's a trend that has spread through fans and it's giving warped figures?

I'm questioning why TGT has so many reviews given the low viewing numbers and why it means more to TGT fans than anyone else.

Do you genuinely think TGT is up there with the best TV or film ever?

I don't think it has significantly warped figures, there are enough ratings to make the numbers relatively reliable. I do think it's one of the most entertaining TV shows.

Again, I'd welcome any broader, more creditable measurement of audience opinion if you have a peculiar issue with IMDB.

It's beyond me why TG and now TGT have people who seem to follow it just to slate it. Other shows don't seem to have that effect so it must have something unique.

Lets flip it. If YOU don't like this (generally) balanced thread. Don't read or post on it.

I enjoy the show, its perfectly natural and healthy to want to view and then share that experience. Kind of morbidly curious as to why some of you dedicate a critique to a show thats not what you want and is unlikely to change, it seems a somewhat worthless cause. I found chris evans top gear to be excrutiating, posted a few comments to that effect and read a few and left it there. Never watched it again nor followed a dialougue. It doesnt seem important or a worthwhile use of my time, compared to watching something I enjoy. But I dunno maybe I'm wrong, maybe theres some masochistic enjoyment aspect to this I dont tap into?

They have the core of a good idea, and then they go and ruin it. For the first 15 minutes I was thinking we'd have a head to head with a jag, an M3 and the Alfa. It could have incorporated some silliness, but it would have been interesting. They could have interviewed some mad diesel driving Americans ..... it may be a pickup, but the idea of driving a 7 liter diesel has to be amusing, Instead we got this Barbados dross which was fast forward material....

I disagree. On all the TGT threads the IMDB appears to mean far more to them than anyone else. The knock on effect is the show has a disproportionate amount of reviews to the viewing numbers. It appears to me that the hard core of fans are desperate to leave reviews and it's not a balanced opinion.

You see this on other review formats too. In recent months my City has seen a sandwich shop and a fast food stall inside one of those disgusting markets rated at the number 1 restaurant.

I don't know why when people offer a justified critical opinion they get attacked for it. Most people aren't watching to moan. Most people are saying that there is good parts within too much bad stuff. People are making comments and suggestions of what they would like to see and what they don't.

Some of the defences that people put up are laughable. Just a page ago it was said that people like me aren't their target audience. I'm one of the guys who actually pays for it. Surely I'm exactly the person they want?

I'd say the forums are a good measure of how people like it. From all TGT threads I'd say the majority of opinions are very similar. If all the people expressing negative opinions signed up to the IMDB the ratings would soon slump.

Agree - the Alfa bit was great and I was hoping was going to have a second half of comparing it to bmw & jag - sadly not frown

What I really don't get about the touring is they really have so little in it related to the country they're it - as you say plenty of interesting American car history & scene to make a strong episode - instead we get pointless holiday tosh...

I'm wondering how Mr Porter is coping without his sole that he's clearly we'd off for $$$s

What's stopping them?

Perhaps MP could spare us a week off to leave an IMDB review.

Just face it, you aren't the target anymore (and haven't been for a while).
That's it for me. Just because you are on Pistonheads doesn't mean you are hardcore Cars. I'm not and i really enjoy the 'entertainment' show.

I had a nice car for 5 years and traded it all in for a couple of guns and a dog or three. In fact check out the garages of the other posters, many haven't listed cars and some have listed boring cars like I have now.

If you are a hardcore Pistonhead The Grand Tour probably isn't for you. I don't watch Eastenders because I don't like it.

I guess it would be the same reasons as me. They probably don't have that much interest in signing up to another website that wasn't of interest before?
