I'm looking forward to the next series of "new" Top Gear. If they push Harris and Reid to the fore, and concentrate on the cars, it could be great.

I agree. The overall limpness of The Grand Tour has given the BBC an opportunity and, hopefully, a clear signal that it should be braver than last time and try something a bit different.

I would hope they will do what TG did and ask themselves whats not working. For TG it was a list of one - Evans. For TGT the list will be longer, but you;d hope Wilman et al, would take a breath and re-watch series 1 and realise where they need to change things. Wouldn't be too difficult if they spent some time on here!
Why on earth would they change it? They're reading fans saying it's perfect and have a Facebook group for people to tell them what they want to hear. And more importantly, a contract apparently for three series.

It's simply a big lazy cash in for them. They're laughing all the way to retirement. The last thing they want to do is do anything different or create new ideas.
Maybe naive but artistic integrity? They are going to get paid whether they produce something crap or good, so why not produce a series that they don't look back on and cringe.

Maybe they don't possess the self-awareness to look back on series 1 and see the clunky humour, lack of spark, and overlong flogged-to-death jokes. For examplen any idiot (or 4 idiots CHMW) could see how "celebrity braincrash" was one average joke mistakenly repeated, and remove it from next series.

Ah yes, the lucrative three season contract. One wonders if CHMW strategy is to deliberately produce an unexceptional first series in the hope that Amazon will cancel the other two. If Amazon cancel and have to compensate them, it could still be a nice little earner. scratchchin

We'll see - as season one is coming to an end, does anyone know when season 2 is due to air?

Not sure when it airs, but May confirmed on Drivetribe that filming will start at the end of this month. He also hinted that there was more like the GT40 film on the way for next season.

That doesn't look like a Simpson Bandit helmet. In fact, for some reason it looks more like Tom Chilton than before.

Definitely a Simpson helmet - you can see the ridges in the forehead in the rearview mirror.

He got a lot of internet love for that piece. I think he is potentially more in touch with (my and others) overall perception of the show. That it is not anywhere near as good as it should be.

I think he will be banging the table for the "disappointed" fans. This quote is him trying to tell people to stick with it, it will get better.

The more I watch this (and enjoy it), the more I think the tent business is a legal thing to make them different from TG as (adventures aside) it's all filmed in the U.K. rather than whatever country the tent is in.

An opportunity lost or a cost saving measure.

As Mr Porter has hinted the same thing, I'm kind of thinking you are talking Horlicks, as usual.

//edit - not hinted, flat out come out and said there will be more like that next season.

Just watched the Alfa Romeo and Barbados episode. Very good entertainment. Is there a reason why when cars are timed round the track in the wet some formula can't be applied that might represent a relatively accurate dry track time?

Well think about it, there are so many variables it would be impossible.

has such a massive impact you would be better off having separate wet and dry boards, once you have 15 or so quick dry laps, very quick cars are not going to get anywhere close to the top if they drove in the wet

My thoughts. Run a number of wet then dry laps in a cross section of cars with the same driver. Compare % difference, then apply. It's only TGT but I think it would be a slightly more accurate representation of the car's performance.

I'm afraid I'm out - I've cancelled my Prime membership. The last episode was the final straw - it's all the worst bits of Top Gear, presented in HD. It's also such a wasted opportunity to have no films related to the country they're in, and also not to show anything about the cars they use in the intro.

I am, on the other hand looking forward to the next series of TG. Harris and Reid are great, and I generally thought the last series found a good balance of reviews and cocking about.

A 300bhp 4wd hatch is going to be hampered less than a 800bhp RWD car. A car in light rain is going to be faster than a car in deep puddles.

There is so many variables and factors to into account it's simply impossible to assume a car will lose a certain percentage.

It doesn't really help that that track is rubbish. There's no way that anyone is driving fast cars at 100% when you've got no run off.

Take TGT lap times as no more than a bit of fun.

So I got Prime membership.

Let's see what TGT is like I thought...

First one was just fine, like a pair of comfy Top Gear slippers with The Stig's head on them. Ahhh!

And then I watched some more...

Dear me it's dreadful. Perhaps I have finally noticed how bad the CMH Top Gear had become? I gave up after the stupid thing with the Land Rover Eco cars made out of mud etc. I realised I was fast forwarding and skipping through chunks of it. I think TG with Evans in it was better.

Fortunately I quite like "The Man In The High Castle" so all is not lost.

I wouldn't do otherwise. Didn't they used to add a second and a bit on for a wet lap in the old TG or was that me automatically adjusting?
