Trailer released with messed up audio, lots of Tom Cruise grunting and screaming hehe
https://youtu.be/y-foORZXMT0

If this video disappears, search YouTube for the mummy audio, Universal are playing whack a mole with the uploads, trying to get rid of it.

The original Mummy was very good and even looks good today, so I'm not sure why they feel the need to remake it. They could have just called it something different. Of course it'll never be as good without Rachel Weisz smile

Everyone wants a shared universe. The monster one is a good one, and the Mummy would have to be part of this.

First bit looks good, but second bit looks boring, yawn, another danger against the world. It would be really better if it was a much smaller story, it looks like it'll tank and the trailer is another mash of revealing too much and cgi over content.

They're remaking it as one of a series of films that will form a shared 'monster universe' for Universal Studios, apparently. They are also planning Invisible Man, Wolfman, Van Helsing, Creature From The Black Lagoon, and Bride of Frankenstein movies that will all take place in the same cinematic universe, a la Marvel.

I did think they were gonna be pat of the other monster universe, but I guess KOng/Mothra/Godzilla would just step on the mummy.

Ironically, the "monster universe" pre-dates the Marvel cinematic universe. I think the old Hammer monster films were all ostensibly the same universe?

But, yes, doubtless the rationale for re-launching the monster universe is because the Marvel cinematic universe films have been so commercially successful and they want some of that. smile

Tom has looked good ever since the mid 80s, and still does, but does anyone think he is starting to look a lil creaky?

Not sure what people are moaning about or expecting, It's a Tom Cruise film and baring the odd divergence, he's been pretty much using the same formula throughout his whole career so switch off brain and while away a few hours as he does his stuff, lots of OTT stunts done by Tom himself, Tom getting angry, Tom getting flung around by explosions, saving the day, getting the girl and most importantly lots of what Tom does best...running, because no one runs like the Cruiser. If he also has a crisis of confidence along the way that will be the icing on the cake. wink

He is like the McDonald's of Hollywood, not the greatest of culinary delights but unaccountably satisfying given the quality of the ingredients and you always know what you are getting.

He's ever so slightly starting to age, but not much, hard to believe that Tom's a year older than Russel Crow from that trailer.

I couldn't agree more. If we learnt anything from the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, its that no good can come of revamping this classic

Wow, it's number 6 on the list!!!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-gros...

Latest one showing signs of diminishing returns though, the formula can't be getting old after only 8 films surely... :Spin:
I guess it sells in China. Don't see much room for crossover though. A monster universe could provide...what, 20 films? MCU is currently up to 15.
