Taboo - Starting This Saturday

Really been enjoying it however I don't feel like enough has happened/developed and it's already the final episode next week.... assume there is going to be another season?
It is really very slow paced, almost too slow for much of the time. The stories seem intentionally snail-paced to ensure they get a multi-series deal to resolve them.
I find it intriguing to watch and have little fits and starts of enjoyment from it but not entirely sure I have liked it overall. Strange.

Yeah I completely agree on this. I watched last night's episode with a friend as was explaining what had happened already- it as only when they asked how many episodes that there had been that I realised it was likely to be the last next week (before it as announced that it actually would be the last) and how much they'll have to cram in to next week. Unless it leaves open a massive cliffhanger for the next series...Watchman said:

Some seriously grim tools in the Tower. I would st myself just looking at them.
What did the toturer do to him at first? Couldn't really tell what tool he picked up and used on him.ajprice said:
Anyone tried using this at work yet? Also, "I have a use for you" in a sinister tone

Couldn't really tell what tool he picked up and used on him.So it all seems to be settled for the final episode to have Stuart Strange and James Delaney in positions of holding royal trials against each other, with each having witnesses against the other tucked away in hiding.
Who will crack first, who has the most to lose? A big game of bluff and double bluff about to be acted out in the tower chamber.
Or will there be a twist?
I have loved this series. It's been slow, but I've enjoyed that. The storyline has come together nicely for the final showdown in the final episode of this series with Delaney going directly up against Strange in a face off.
Some great characters and actors playing them, I almost cheered when Tom Hollander arrived in Ep3.

I'm with you on this. It's my exact thoughts when watching the latest couple of episodes last night. First 3 or 4 were spot on but it needs to pick up the pace a tad and actually go somewhere now. Too little too late perhaps...Mothersruin said:

Just watched this week's episode and finally it's picked up.
What's gone so far was two episodes worth of story.
Looking forward to next week though.

I'd go along with that. I was borderline giving up a couple of episodes back such was the turgidity of pace. It was only a couple of exceptions with the duel probably being the highlight that kept me interested. What's gone so far was two episodes worth of story.

8 eps, and I reckon it was only really 5&6 that didn't especially advance the plot. It could easily have been delivered in 6 episodes. One assumes it was deliberate, however, to slow the pace virtually to a stop before ramping back up for the final 2 episodes. I also think 6 episodes would have left most people feeling a little short changed, so they've probably stretched the story to 8 to reach a natural break point for the following series.
On the whole though it's been one of the best British dramas in years on terrestrial TV. And it's a great bit of scheduling to open up a new prime time Saturday slot at a time when film-style TV series are proliferating at the rate they are.

They'd only feel short changed if the story arc didn't work. It clearly didn't work over 8 episodes, so I feel (as others do) that it needed more story or less episodes. I expect some people did give up.
I'm quite disappointed to hear they have 2 more series planned.
In my view a good series presents a story, beginning to end. Planning subsequent series suggests they're going to leave us hanging...
Talk of a second series of the Night Manager is OK (assuming they can make one out of it) because the story was complete in the first series.
Line of Duty has presented different stories, so that works, too, but you can't really see Tom Hardy walking away from Taboo, so I can't see how the story can develop credibly (Although credibility may still be something that they're not really worried about... I hope the final episode reveals that!)
Everyone will have their own view on it, but I certainly wouldn't class it as anywhere near the 'Best British TV drama in years', although the BBC are to be applauded for putting such a challenging series on in the Saturday 9PM slot - Not everyone is out partying and those that are can always iPlayer
