Well I've still got my collection of Robertson's Golly*** badges from the 1950's.
Michael Redgrave(Barnes Wallis):-
"Perhaps if you tell them I designed it...do you think that might help?"
lol!
My all time favourite cinema quote.
The last (three letter) syllable from the Robertson's doll name was and is an insulting term, or derogatory at best. Unless you lived in that time, it is very hard to understand just how brainwashed we now are. The trouble is that removing a word still leaves the sentiment in those who want to offend. Spastic, for example, is a perfectly normal medical term, but because it was hijacked it is now unacceptable. Shall they ban 'special' just because it is used to refer insultingly to educationally subnormal children? It is like trying to retain water in a colander with your fingers - there will always be malice.Michael Redgrave(Barnes Wallis):-

Don't see the problem.
They warned, for those who would be offended.
The film has gone out unedited for all your benefit.
Everyone wins
(There is a certain irony in being offended by a warning of offensive language though)
No! The offence is at the pettiness of it, it's not ironic They warned, for those who would be offended.

No it wasn't, and it was certainly a common name for dogs, I read somewhere that the dog in the film had the same name. Gibson certainly didn't name his dog in order to be racially offensive.
I doubt Gibson named his dog to cause offence but it certainly was a racist term back then, just because it was acceptable does not stop it being so.It is a historical reference but some people will take offence.
Watching it now - excellent. Didn't see the warning at the start but glad ITV4 hasn't blanked said ocurrences. In case you don't want to know yet... Sadly, the canine in question has just gone to the big kennels
I was thinking earlier if we faced the same threat now how many people with backbones would rise from their state supplied lives and do the right thing for the country that has supported them
Sadly, in the same situation, I fear we'd allbe fluent German speakers.

The DVLA don't find it a problem going by this number plate. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
