Car SOS - how good are their restorations?
Discussion
Race car replicas are such a tricky thing... unless they're perfect (which they normally never are because track ride-heights don't work on the road) they just look like the usual McDonald's carpark st. You could tell me that they spent £1,000 or £50,000 when SOS did this and I wouldn't be able to tell - it just looks awful. Maybe the guy absolutely loved it but just can't keep it, but the market for it must be tiny. Shame.

Yes very good last night, agree the two owners acted a bit strange, like he knew all along? Well deserved though he deserved a bit of luck. Fascinating watching the engine being rebuilt to better than new using better parts, yup, good idea to have a programme on Rick’s business.
Thought explanation of how the suspension system works was excellent. Surprised the suspension system did not need work other than new hoses, think they were lucky. Reveal OK but not sure owner did not realise what was going on.
just watched the Citroen SM one. I thought they did a nice job on the car although the owner had done some of the work. The chap's wife was a bit over the top and as some others have said, he didn't seem too shoked when he saw it at Silverstone but maybe that's just the way he is... Good programme and well deserved owner. They are nice looking cars, I bought a 2500M in the 80’s and looked at one of these but the body being glassfibered to the chassis put me off.
Machine that wrapped the wiring loom made my eyes crossed, forty people making looms? Must be busy place.
I thought they might have replaced the Volkswagen chassis with new rather than repair, suppose it depends on how much TVR modified it to suit their purpose.
Sand moulding is fascinating, I ordered cast items from Bo’ness foundry and got a tour of the place, the pattern makers skills are amazing, they have to allow for shrinkage in the pattern as it cools. Would not like to pay their Lx bill for melting the metal.
Thought it looked excellent in paint and underside looked superb, much better protected than original.
Passed MOT on 28th March, no advisories, so programme is right up to date
Brilliant reveal, great idea to get narrator to say it was his car, good to put a face to the voice, there is no doubt owner was not aware car was his, I thought he was about to have another heart attack at reveal, he was genuinely surprised.
L plate black / black Toyota Supra MK4 on now. Ive always liked these and almost bought a manual Turbo one some years ago, but £ prices are crazy now.
I have Fast Lanes test report somewhere, that said the Supras steering was “ life less “ and didn’t Clarkson call it a “ Chest Wig On Wheels “
Jap cars rot with a vengeance ( one of my old 260Zs just dissolved ) but the crusty suspension arms, front X member, fuel & brake lines on this Supra have to be seen to be believed. The floor edges are crusty too. They certainly didn’t build these cars for a British winter, that’s for sure.
Interesting that they state that just 600 Supra MK4s came to Britain, wonder how many of those have survived ? Let alone all of the Import cars that came here.

Looked a decent job on the TVR.
Remember a few years back there was a (was it a Vixen or a Grantura can't recall) in SD Autotec. Steve was rebuilding the car. I was seriously surprised at how little rigidity there was in the roof. Now with my Gilbern I have a similar floppy roof without the "structural" glass,
