I think I noticed an error in Extra Gear. When Rory was on about the Fiesta ST200, they showed an interior shot that, as far as I'm aware, is not from a Fiesta, unless it's the US version?

That's the interior of the new Fiesta ST...not out until next year.

I watched it tonight.

The Aston / Merc segment was fine, but the "'Ring piece" got tedious very quickly and I fast-forwarded in the end. I love the Golf Mk7 and know the Clubsport S is a great car, but Rory & Sabine's shrieking just got rather wearisome. Plus we already know that Sabine can punt a Transit van round the 'Ring faster than most car drivers so it didn't really tell us much more than Rory had already told us on the road section.

The Fiat piece was well shot and was inoffensive, although didn't really tell us much more than countless other reviews have already done (ie. that the MX-5 is the better car of the two). But it was a fair car review for what it was.

Overall, a fairly solid episode.

Back in 2005/6, Sabine came to a BMW Car Club track day At Silverstone to punt an E60 M5 around. What a sour faced cow she was as well, really standoffish.

I would have loved Clarkson to give her one of these to wear:

"Right, we need a helmet for this bit"

I, for one, am surprised that Sabine was not weak at the knees and positively salivating after spending some time in the famously urbane, witty and socially enveloping world that is the car enthusiast.

I still don't understand BMW car numbers. E39, e24. And I am a car geek.

I thought Top Gear was good. Big improvement on last series. Pretty safe format but they seem to be trying whereas the Grand Tour felt toward the end they were phoning it in.

I will still watch both.

Given up with all of it tbh, GT and TG are now just becoming farcical, which is a shame.
TG, in its day, was very funny, but both camps are trying to milk the same humour.

I really hope you work on a farm and not in the adult entertainment industry.

Surprised how many here are enjoying the show.

Harris is a terrible entertainer he had a niche as an online reviewer who could drive and had a passion for cars but he is dire in the scripted tg format.

The bond part was terrible because of this felt totally pointless the race with the mercedes.

The interview was also terrible with the fake teacher section on the track who found that funny?

And the ring part with sabine was just silly everyone knows they were letting her through yet she screamed when she would overtake while the guy reeled of some suspect car values.

There was little to like. The grand tour while still being worked on is far funnier i have seen some of them a few times.

gt3 launch control scene for example is a way funnier skit than anything this TG has done and that did not require any of the 3.if you have not seen check out 'censored to censored'

Surprised that people have different opinions of things?

To me nearly all of TGT was absolutely dire. I have zero desire to watch any of them ever again.

I'm bothered that there is anyone out there willing to watch a Grand Tour episode multiple times, the humour in them is dire, dated, repetitive (lol the celebrity died!) and forced and most of the challenges are pointless beyond belief. There's tonnes of filler and the cinematography simply isn't as good as TopGear.

Good thing we all like different things eh.

I have to agree with this. Maybe I'm just not the target audience. Although I wasn't really target audience of the latter Top Gear stuff they did either.. or the videos/DVDs that got churned out.

I think this format is just too old and tired now as all Motoring shows have moved towards entertainment rather than factual broadcasting. I watched the first one and haven't bothered since and the same goes for Wheeler Dealers and Fast n Loud maybe all that could have been done has been.

It's an enjoyable hour of TV on a Sunday evening and that's all I ask of it - perhaps I'm easily pleased. I haven't yet warmed to Chris, I wish Rory would stop applauding himself and SIARFC is 'get a drink/have a pee time' but, as an hour of prime time TV it achieves what it sets out to do - amuse and entertain. You could microscopically examine every second and pull it apart a million ways but, like a book, painting or piece of music, that's not the way I would judge it. Overall, as entertainment, it works. Q.E.D.

Sorry. Someone out there thought that bit was funny? That's quite surprising as I thought it one of the more dire/cringy/lead balloon bits of TGT.

TGT: Not as good as expected. A bit lame overall. But probably worth watching just to join in conversations.
New New TG: Pretty good so far. Well worth watching for car based entertainment.

Yes, but to do that sort of piece you have to be Jay Leno to start with. After the last few years of disaster, it's going to be a long time before we see the likes of Tom Cruise on the show again. I agree it'd be nice for serious petrol heads to open up about their car habits, but for now this show is going to struggle to get stars of any sort to come on. The problem is that with a weekly 'almost live' slot, they're very limited for choice, and that limits the quality of the interviewee. Old Top Gear had the same problem with the occasional guest who apparently hated cars, but the new show doesn't (yet) have the 'safe hands' reputation that Clarkson built up.
The only reason we got people like Tom Cruise, was because the BBC had them lined up to do Jonathan Ross who then did a naughty thing and got cancelled. Was that not the case?

Very good point, but if that means we don't have to see Tom Cruise again I'm happy with that. A truly awful specimen!

Looking back, there have been very few decent studio guests. Jay K, James Blunt, Will Young, maybe that guy from The Darkness, and Leno. After that I'm struggling.

Christ some of you lot are boring. The 'ring bit was staged? No st, it's an entertainment show. If you wanted a serious car show then Top Gear has never been the place to go... it's a bit of fun with a car theme.

I agree mostly with your list, but....

Jay K.
Memorable perhaps, but decent? He behaved like he was on something, and only turned up a second time because his ego was bruised.

If you had put Lionel Richie's name in there instead......
