Every time Rory Reid appears I feel like I'm watching Blue Peter and the target demographic is 5-15.
Bit like watching Hammond then?
Similar, but Hammond was actually amusing.

I've enjoyed some of the car reviews that RR has done on his own particularly the Mustang from the previous season. He just seems to have become more juvenile this time around...unless it's due to the absence of Evans ?

I think he only owns one jacket too.

Evans is an excellent benchmark for juvenile behaviour so his absence would highlight Reid's propensity for it. Hammond was actually quite good at reporting on cars something Reid isn't.

At it's worst it's as bad as old TG was.
At it's best, it's fresher and better IMO.

I'm not expecting every section, script, and guest to meet my exacting standards.
But so far it's easily outclassed Evans' attempt and trumped tGT.
Especially given the respective budgets...

Hopefully TG can slowly introduce fresh ideas to replace the tired old ones...which is easier to do than replacing tired presenters.

The Chiron piece was good to watch, the rest was dull.

Feels like Chris Harris was given the job - as long as he (sold his soul and) was prepared to play the 'yappy, shouty little man' role vacated by Hammond. Also, the 'Joey' and 'little bald man' digs feel very much engineered to create a rivalry similar to the Clarkson/Hammond one that focused around fatness/shortness/white teeth etc.

I know the BBC is terrified of losing the revenue that Top Gear generates but it should have taken a chance and tried something new. Parachuting in Matt Le Blanc to give the show a recognisable face is just lazy. I Sky+'d last night's show just to see the Chiron and I'll do the same for the Ford GT next week. The rest is just meh.

I saw someone describe him as someone who looks like they won a competition to be on there. Seems harmless enough but incredibly bland; would probably be more suited to reviewing vacuum cleaners on the Gadget Show.

They had a Chiron sat on a stand at last years' Festival of Speed (though it might have been an empty Chiron-shaped box for all you knew... you weren't allowed anywhere near it). I'm surprised how long it seems to be taking to get it all up together as a saleable product. Maybe VW are still working out how to fudge the emissions from it... a tankful in nine minutes!? yikes That Top Gear was the first time I've seen one moving. Looks a lot nicer and less bloated than the Veyron, though I found the noise distinctly underwhelming. Maybe I've just got a crap telly, but you'd want a bit more shock and awe given how it's re-arranging the laws of physics around you. Sounded like a '64 Doge Dart.

The new series continues to impress me anyway. Almost anything that doesn't involve Clarkson and Hammond had to be an improvement, but this series is even more betterer for not including Evans and Jordan too

Surely in Dubai they could have found a Veyron to drag race the Chiron against? Would have put the performance into perspective.

Skipped through most of it. Chiron bit went on far too long. Harris isn't a presenter. He constantly tries to hard.

Rory is rapidly turning into Rory who?

MLB bits are the only watchable parts of the show. Everything else gets either fast forwarded or missed for tea/coffee/toilet.

Thumds up form me.

I feel like Rory is being sold a bit short, it's not his fault he's being given all the crappier pieces. I'd like to see how he gets on with a proper feature.

Twingo GT review was OK until they got into the Pacman thing and then it was a waste of 10 minutes.
Agree with this, I was thinking finally Rory is doing an interesting article and then it went to st. I actually quite like the Smart too, why not do something interesting with it instead of that stupid game. And please stop pranging brand new cars.
They were probably hardly scratched I didnt see many actual knocks?

But those companies were probably throwing cars at Top Gear even if they were going to end up totalled. That much of a review for one £14k car is the bargain of the century for Renault.

I'm not sure that's far from the truth - I seem to recall there was a competition to send in video auditions to be the next TG presenter - he won it.

I actually enjoy his screen time and think he'd doing a decent job, he's handicapped slightly by the material he's given - his role seems to be whipping boy / ‘real world’ stuff.

I'd like to see him review a super car or two and not one where he has to call on another preseting to do the fast bits.

I thought it was the best episode yet. Infantile humour (old TG) has been reduced and I think the presenters are getting better. I find MLB pretty funny.

The bit with the guests though is still boring IMHO.

Well, you drive a Civic, and he drives a Lambo...so whatever he's doing, he's doing it better than you biggrin
Too right he is!

I suppose he's got more going for him than the talent-less hacks from the likes of Made in Chelsea and other reality shows. They're all doing better than me (and likely most of this forum) as well! all for chatting bks every week about who kissed who. Sometimes, I do wonder why I bothered to do something useful when I could be doing nothing of merit and getting paid in shovel fulls of cash. Then I remember... I can't sing, I can't act and I am not an attention we hehe

ETA: has rather more icons in it than I expected...makes it look like a little angry man rant!

Enjoyed it again last night. The Chiron runway and Pacman bits were a touch too long but that's fine, they have an hour to fill and sometimes they have to pad to make the programme fit the schedule (that said, a lot of The Grand Tour segments were way too long and they're not as constrained by time).

I saw the Pacman piece as an enjoyable visual spectacle, and it delivered on that. My heart sank a bit when they said they were going to do a race as it felt like that angle has been done to death, but it was fun.

I get the feeling Rory has a nice way with words so it'd be good to see him given something a bit more substantial to do, but it's OK. I don't think he's playing the Hammond character, I see him appealing to a demographic that CHMTG would have struggled with.

On the Kias that were trashed on old Top Gear in their football game....the cars used were actually pre-production examples that were destined for the crusher.

Bear in mind that in the name of entertainment, everything might not always be as it seems...

Just watched on iPlayer - skipped the guest bit (assume I didn't miss much) but rest of it was decent smile
