What happened to those cars in the Pacman is a mere speck of dust on the manufacturers' publicity budgets.

Eg JLR Discovery, evening off road in the dark at Eastnor, dinner and a bed for the night. Everyone got stuck, well stuck, one Disco clawed itself out on three wheels after ripping a tyre off. Still small beer.

Back to TG, reasonable show, Harris review of Chiron, certainly toned down not so shout and manic, but the car really is about top trumps straight line stuff.

Tinie Tempah, never heard of him before, but unlike some, prepared to listen and take on face value. Certainly more amenable than some of the CMH era, especially the loud US stars.

Really don't see why so many have an issue with Rory, yes he's not a drifting god, he's not one to make girlies go weak at the knees, but he does imo a competent job. Would like to see him get more major reviews.
The race, yes well it's scripted, and if you're having bits which require acting, then why not have an actor, who also enjoys the job.
Even Sabine wasn't so Sabinesque, still the weakest though.

I think they should go racing. The three of them entering an endurance race would make a great episode. I know CHM did it before but a different kind of race would be cool. Classic Spa 6 hours for example.
Great idea. Or give them each a grand to buy a car to go banger racing in. Could spend half the show showing how they prep the cars, and then the other showing them annihilating each other on track.

Twingo GT review was OK until they got into the Pacman thing and then it was a waste of 10 minutes.
Agree with this, I was thinking finally Rory is doing an interesting article and then it went to st. I actually quite like the Smart too, why not do something interesting with it instead of that stupid game. And please stop pranging brand new cars.
They were probably hardly scratched I didnt see many actual knocks?

But those companies were probably throwing cars at Top Gear even if they were going to end up totalled. That much of a review for one £14k car is the bargain of the century for Renault.
When the cars are properly beaten up by TG (much more so than this week's show) they tend to be pre-production and destined for the crusher. Manufacturer phones up, asks if the show fancies doing something fun with one, and you get a feature like the Fiesta Clarkson took to a military beach landing, or the Twingo launched into the sea.

As said above, lighter damage to the manufacturer's press fleet is a small price to pay for the exposure.
It's not the price, it creates a mindset where people think bumping cars is ok, fun even. It encourages touch parking etc, idiots copy what they see on TV.
Do you have any evidence for that?

Enjoyed it.

You got the sense that Harris and MLB were really enjoying themselves out in Dubai. SIARFC is getting better - TT actually likes cars, and the chat was kept on point. Pac Man was a bit too long, but hey - they managed to get a review of a Twingo in next to a review of the Chiron, so it's not just 'elitist' stuff.

That was an hour of proper 'car' TV with relatively little filler, and there is plenty to look forward to. Next to it TGT has got too self-referential and just a little 'Last of the Summer Wine'.

Still room for both of them, long may they continue!

I liked it.... The documentary on after about Turkey was excellent, incidentally.

Simon Reeves comment on the front page of the turkish national newspaper, claiming that BBC reporting was the cause for the sirian conflict was great.

"The BBC can't even get top gear right, never mind orchestrate a military coupe!!"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08l56ws

Look it up, I thought it was really good.

Agree with all of this, honestly I am enjoying the new Top Gear. I quite like Rory as well despite what some others have said, I do think they are selling him a bit short but then Matt LeBlanc is the superstar presenter, Chris Harris is the proper car nerd who can obviously drive so Rory is just third man in some respects. Early days though, id like to see them do some more races/road trips/challenges with all three of them involved.

Im very glad to have an hour of car show on the telly and for me this new Top Gear is actually kind of refreshing from the old Clarkson/Hammond/May TG that got a bit tedious, though ive been enjoying TGT too.

I don't think I enjoyed that quite so much as the last couple, but still worth watching to kill an hour.

Overall I think Matt Le Blanc is my favourite of the presenters. I don't seem to like Rory very much for some reason, I used to enjoy CH videos on PH and youtube but I don't think he pulls it off as well on TG. MLB can be dry at points but he has the best sense of humour on the show IMO, and his reviews do seem good and more "real world".

Latest episode was absolutely rubbish. Pacman stunt was lame. Interviewing a lame rapper. Chiron race was lame and predictable. Lame jokes and no lol moments.

Score it just 3/10.

I think he's in the middle category.

You pay to drive. You drive for free. You're paid to drive.

Whether he'd have got to that stage or not without also being a well known journo, I don't know.

Yes it was bloody dire. The bloke who hosts it is as engaging as cold coffee.

I've just dropped into this thread to see what people thought and boy do some people need to get a fking life. Complaining about light bumping of piss-cheap cars in a PacMan style segment?! Christ on a fking bike!

Another good show I thought. Used to live in the Middle East so really enjoyed the Chiron at DWC and the race to Oman and it is good to see them featuring some lower priced metal that most viewers might actually be able to afford with the Twingo and the like.

As for Rory...I like the chap. Seems a thoroughly genuine bloke who likes his cars. A good foil to CH and MLB who are both a bit more showy in different ways but without such exaggerated characterisation as made CHM into a Last of the Summer Wine parody in the later series.

We get it, you don't like it. Not sure its a 3/10 though. Just the cinematography and the products tested gets it a 5/10

IU read it as better that unlike old CHM TG they didn't just descend into demolition derby mode, which I always thought was a bit tragic.

I did wonder with all that sand blowing around the runways how much of that would have ended up inside the car's workings.
