To me top gear has always been childish. At least clarkson was actually funny but the new lot aren't funny in themselves, only if they get it scripted, which plainly doesn't work. The whole thing is cringy.

They're (BBC) too scared to strike out in their own & have kept to the model that proved successful in the past. How weak. Why keep the stig? That was funny originally because it was, original. Now it's just sad. As someone pointed out, the gurning Sabrine would have been better off becoming the new track person. That way it would be different from old tired idea, but still have the ability to set consistent fastest laps.

Trying to do pathetic contrived race 'challenges' has always been awful, they should have tried a different take on the idea of getting out and about. Keeping the same warehouse style chat, (always painful), - had its day. But too scared to kill it off.

Overall, it just shows weak leadership.
But the question is, what does the alternative look like?

The answer is 5th Gear, which, lets be honest has dwindled into obscurity over the last few years and now died completely. It has almost exactly what you say above, is very different to TG and yet has (IMO) failed to take the crown and improve the formula.

In your opinion. I've had several laughs from this series (and I reckon more than from TGT).

Yeah but you can't keep doing the same thing forever, it's why things end up being st. What was ground breaking once, is no longer. What they need is for someone young and creative to come along and create a new motoring show format.

There are dozens of alternatives invented out there already, and they are all as cr*p as TG / GT have become. There are the YouTube supercar chasers, the YouTube mechanics, the YouTube detailing nerds, the TV classic car hunters, the TV wheeler-dealers, and so on.

The problem is the presenters and directors, not the formats. CHM have become like a cheesy tribute act of themselves. MLB, Harris and whatshisname are wooden and cringey. The shows need new, charismatic presenters. Some fresh blood.

The new team are still very much getting into it, last series was Evan's show. You shouldn't moan too much after just 4 episodes.

The new series hasn't been too bad but the extra show is absolutely dire.Who is the presenter ? Looks like he's never set foot in a tv studio before

Its my opinion that new TG is pretty good. Certainly features more cars than TGT ever did in the whole series. And is no where near as bad as CHMTG got towards the end.

People speaking about why they didn't change it when it came back with MLB, RR and Harris

I reckon it will evolve slowly. Remember early CHM TG

It was series 4 before they did a race(DB9)
It was S04E5 before they all went out on a group test (Pendine sands)
And S5e6 before they did a decent cheap car challenge (Porsche) Compared to the cack £100 car one that felt a bit faked.

It took time to evolve. It got good. But then inevitably the devolution occurred towards the end. Ambulances! Anti cycling nonsense

I'm prepared to give it a few series. In time we may see a gradual change.

He's like a demented Thunderbirds puppet, far too animated.

Absolutely love the Ford

Some of the cinematography (think that is the right word) in this series has been stunning, absolutely spot on...
