Enjoyed it and enough intrigue to watch more. Audio was fine but I only have the sound from the TV's speakers.

I'm guessing the murder victim had radiation poisoning and the resistance are working on the bomb, hence the ss big wig.

Was the copper an Inspector or a Superintendant? He was referred to by both ranks at different parts. Bit young to be a Super I would have thought.

Thought it was a bit slow too, but no real problems with the sound. I didn't find the dressing of London with swastikas as convincing as New York in the Man in the High Castle.

Maybe there was a cull of senior officers, if they weren't killed during the invasion?

Shock on the internet. When a group of men who are older than they used to be. Find it more difficult to separate speech from background noise, than they used to. They blame the actors.

My ears are fecking terrible as a result of too many miles on motorcycles and loud music but I had no problem at all with the audio.

I wonder if it could be to do with how people are receiving the broadcast as well as their equipment. BBC HD on Astra satellite is Dolby PLII as I said before which I think is a stereo signal which my amp then simulates surround from. The centre channel was loud and clear even though the actors did mumble a bit.

edit to add: just watched a bit on iplayer using my logitech z906 and the audio was noticeably worse but still intelligible.

I watched it through my Panasonic smart TV on I-Player and my 67 year old ears didn't have a problem hearing the dialogue.

Funny how us "older men" don't have this problem with older programmes and films. That would indicate that modern acting techniques and sound recording is at fault, not our ears.

It's rather strange to think that a TV programme made in 1969 has clearer dialogue than one made a few months ago.
I watched an episode of The Avengers from 1969 the other day and every syllable was clear and distinct (story was rubbish mind).
Probably due to the fact that mumbling is now de rigeur in most BBC dramas. Apart from that aspect I quite enjoyed the first episode. It's be so long since I read the book I've forgotten how it ended so in a way it's like a new story for me.

Meh, the Mail is just pissed off because it's only a work of fiction.

I didn't find it less intelligible than other dramas (but then I'm so deaf it's all a hissy, muffled mess).

I did find it dull though.

Someone DID say "Listen very carefully" - My wife immediately piped up "I shall zis only once!"

I was really looking forward to this, but I'm going to reserve judgement for now.

I did find the main character (and the American) mumbly too - Yes, I'm 150 years old, but I don't have problems with most programmes...

I didn't have a problem with the pace of it (Far faster than Taboo, for example!), but I don't think it really hit its stride in episode one.

Was interesting enough to bring me back next week though.

Again.

Didn't they do the same thing with Jamaica Inn?

I suppose the problem is that these are not made in-house anymore.

I'm a cameraman.

It's so annoying when I set up a scene, get my lights and camera in position then the bloody sound man wants to ruin it all by getting his boom mike right in on the action.

I'm always asking them to work a bit higher as it's spoiling my shot and casting shadows.

It must be my fault then hehe

My daughter insists on watching all telly with sub titles on. Used to annoy me until I realised how much I was missing from the story being told.

I quite liked it. Got it set to record forthcoming episodes.
The only thing I noticed, and it's not a continuity error as such is that the lobby area of the police station (and indeed the office they were working in) also featured as the lobby of the mental hospital in Call The Midwife which preceeded it on Sunday evening.

It's the lobby area of Central St Martins in London, I only knew it as I've just spent a couple of weeks on a film in that building.

ETA: we called it CSM but looking on maps it's a different building. It's a studios on the corner of Southampton row and the A40. Former design college I think.

The participants on Gogglebox just reviewed it, and by common consent they couldn't hear it very well. So it's not just PH members.
