More loose ends than an abandoned yarn factory......
I still enjoyed the series though.
Where did the map in his pocket come from? What use would it be on Dartmoor without a compass? Why didn't Kellerman send a reconnaissance plane to look for his car on the journey? How come they didn't encounter any patrols/checks during the journey after London? How did the Yanks get a massive warship up the Channel without the Germans noticing? I still enjoyed the series though.
Are all Deighton's books like this? I've got his cookbook but it's not a great read.

Is that how the book ended?
No, the book is completely different and they diverged dramatically. There is so much difference I think its best to read this which is quite accurate rather than me write tonnes of text....http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-03-19/bbc-dram...

Dartmoor? He must have been really lost if he was on his way back to London.
I took it that he was heading for the "unoccupied zone"; so, somewhere oop north. It certainly looked like a peat and gritstone moorland landscape.Yup, I had assumed that too.
It wasn't really made very clear how far north the Occupied Zone extended, so I had assumed it was probably meant to be the Peak District, or possibly that as far north as Scotland. I can't remember whether it was explained exactly where he was sending his son, other than "north" and out of the Occupied Zone.
It was enjoyable enough, without being spectacular, IMO.

The book is much better but he also leaves lots of stuff unanswered
I'm not sure I agree about "much better". I actually thought it was a pretty decent adaptation - and it stuck reasonably closely to the novel until the final episode. I'd certainly agree that the book is worth a look if you enjoyed the TV version though.

I've seen episode 1 and not read this thread because of spoilers - is this series worth watching?
Go for it in one hit if you can. Ignore the nerdy historical inaccuracies and if you haven't read the book it won't disappoint as long as you can get on with the sound issues etc Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
