Bits of films that make no sense

The whole premise of the film is that you can't kill people in the future, so you send them back to the past.
So when they rock up to get Bruce why do they just casually kill his wife?
Come to think of it why do they have to kill their older selves anyway, just get someone else to do it!

No, the premise is that time travel itself is illegal, not that you can't kill people. They use the time travel to hide the evidence of their killing. The whole premise of the film is that you can't kill people in the future, so you send them back to the past.

As with all time travel movies though, don't think too much into it.

Batman vs Superman. The whole film made little sense, but the worst was Superman - he can hear Lois Lane's heartbeat underground in Africa and rescue her in seconds, in fact does exactly that at the start, but he cannot find his own mum a few miles away...
That's not the kind of willing suspension of disbelief that we wanted.
If you want to pick holes then there's plenty to choose from in Superman That's not the kind of willing suspension of disbelief that we wanted.
In the first Superman film, he doesn't have time to divert both missiles (one aimed at the east coast, one at the west), but then he manages to fly so fast around the world that he turns back time.

I'm probably being stupid, but i can never understand the scene in Die Hard when John McClane meets Hans Gruber and Gruber pretends to be someone called Bill Clay (as he saw that name on the employee board).
How does McClane know he's not Bill Clay? Never understood it.
He doesn't know it's not bill clay or he'd have just shot him. So he tests him to know for sure by giving him an empty pistol. How does McClane know he's not Bill Clay? Never understood it.
Hans bubby then points gun therefore Bruce knows he's one of them.
The reboot of Star Trek, bad guy has the technology that was suppossed to blow up his sun and save his planet but spok didn't get there in time to use it. However bad guy goes back in time, so he has plenty of time and is able to save his planet precisely because of spok.
So why not use the technology to destroy the sun therefore saving his planet.

That scene from Reservoir Dogs , who turns the radio off ?
Also, Eddie dies despite not being shotOne that always confused me was Jurassic Park. The T-Rex pushes the car off the road and down a massive gap. But when rescue arrives they're at road level, then instantly down the bottom checking the car, then running back to their Jeep as soon as they hear the T-Rex coming back.

That's a bit like the start of Goldeneye, Bond bungee-jumps down a massive dam into the secret base / power station / whatever, runs around with Sean Bean shooting people, then escapes and is part-way up a mountain. Jacobyte]r Snrub said:

I disagree: Watch Mr White's arm - he shoots Joe, then immediately swings his arm and his head slightly to his left, clearly shooting Eddie just as Eddie is shooting him.
He was supposed to but Chris Penn dropped too soon and Tarantino left it in.I disagree: Watch Mr White's arm - he shoots Joe, then immediately swings his arm and his head slightly to his left, clearly shooting Eddie just as Eddie is shooting him.
A few more general ones
When to foreign characters start conversing in their native tongue then switch to English for no reason
The supervillain/evil corporation always have loads of faceless goons ready to throw their lives away. Where do they recruit these people and why are they so eager to join? Does Blofled offer a good holiday package?
The classic horror film fake out is a character thinking the monster is in the room but their friend just walks up and pats them on the shoulder. Who does this in real life?
Spaceships capable of faster than light travel still use manually targeted guns and piloted aircraft

Yes, this tends to make me chuckle. Plus the amount of money the super villain must spend to carry out their plan surely is more then the amount they're trying to steal? Die Hard 4.0 - how many henchmen does he have working for him? Plus cars, trucks, helicopters, etc... Jimmy Recard said:
In The Fly, when Brundle first teleports with the fly it takes weeks/months for him to convert into a human fly.
When the human fly teleports at the end, he is instantly fused with the teleporter, becoming that weird icky lump. It didn't take even a second to grow into it
I think the explanation for that is that when the fly fuses with Brundle - the fly is tiny in comparison and so it takes a while for it's DNA to take effect on the much larger body of Brundle. When the human fly teleports at the end, he is instantly fused with the teleporter, becoming that weird icky lump. It didn't take even a second to grow into it
The teleporter on the other hand is of similar size/mass. Also - when he fuses with the teleporter - he is actually half in half out with the door open - so the fusing was in effect a malfunction, the teleporter wasn't designed to be operated with the door open and the subject half in/out

Tie fighters, why the hell would you have a fighter then stick massive fins on the side that the pilot can't see past?
Maybe the tie-pilot helmet contains augmented reality (a bit like the chair from the Last Star Fighter - which marks targets on the gunner seat display - even though they aren't directly visible to the gunner - see ~1:58-1:59 in this video)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmPGuMGs8cg

That's a cinematic conceit, to show people are foreign but once that is established not to piss ppl off with subtitles When to foreign characters start conversing in their native tongue then switch to English for no reason
Allo Allo did it with accents, quite clever.
I recall who shot nice guy Eddie as a big thing before instant playback. Empire had a whole article on it

I watched Assasins Creed recently, half the film was in Spanish so I spent more time reading subtitles then watching the actual film. While I understand it isn't authentic, I'd have preferred it if they spoke English, I'm prepared to give up a little authenticity if it means I can actually enjoy the film more.

Dad Boot would be an exception. I cannot watch that in English, even if it is dubbed by the same actors.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
