This new documentary series is being heavily advertised in advance, and I must admit I'm intrigued. The two best-known feature films (Laughton/Gable and Howard/Brando) both majored on the mutineers and their final settlement in the Pitcairn Islands, and they pretty much skipped over what in fact was one of the finest stories of seamanship in naval history. Bligh was so incensed that he just wanted to get revenge, and that meant ignoring the safe and sensible option of heading for the nearest land - he wanted to reach somewhere that he knew would get him the earliest passage back to Britain.

It's an incredible story. I really hope this is an informative and entertaining series. I have a gut feeling that it won't be, that it'll be like so many programmes these days, simplified to attract casual viewers rather than people who have a genuine interest. We'll have to wait and see.

It's got that beardy killer off of "SAS: Come an' 'ave a go if you think you're 'ard enough" in it, along with what appear to be a load of male models, so I doubt the exploits of Capt Bligh will feature above how to cope when the stark reality of no wifi mid-Pacific hits home.
