This doesn't surprise me really. The last series of Wheeler Dealers really felt like Edd was phoning it in, and with Mike taking on some of the build jobs it felt like they were setting it up for an exit for Edd.

TBh the last few American series have been fking dreadful.

Oh well. Good luck to Ed.

Oh dear, not a fan of Ant at all. Came across as rather up himself in 'For The Love Of Cars'.

Looks like the show has become a victim of its own sucess and now it is likely to become just another Velocity formulaic car show.

Not for me I'm afraid.

Sounds like Velocity/Discovery f**ked it up by reducing the workshop stuff.

The whole point of the show is that you are presumed to do all of the work Ed does in your spare time to gain the returns they did. Thats why Ed's time was never factored in.
IMO that's where the whole premise of the show falls down. It purports to be all about the wheeling and dealing - ie 'how much profit can we make by flipping a car after getting a bit of work done to bring it up to scratch and calling in a few favours?'.
However, by the end of each episode you're thinking to yourself "Edd China just put in eighty man hours of solid graft to get the car like that; if you divide the 'profit' over the number of hours he was toiling away, he's barely cleared minimum wage". Combine that with the often poor acting skills of the 'buyers' and you the whole thing is a bit farcical. It'd be much more interesting if the cars were being prepped to appear at shows or events, or to take part in a race or rally then sold off afterwards as an attempt to recoup costs.

It's not supposed to really be for profit in my book. It's buy a car, tinker coz you enjoy it and then sell it and you may make a bit as a cherry on top. It's not supposed to be Ed's job, but his own spare time so not costed.

That's how it's always seemed to me anyhow.

That's what I mean though. Either make it more about the enjoyment of the process, the skills etc, or make it a show about how to make a living from buying, fixing and selling exotic cars. Doing one whilst pretending to be doing the other just does my head in... tongue out

A bit of a blow for me, loved Edd on WD from the start. My waning interest has now been quelled. Can't wait to see Edd's next vehicle (pun intended).

Edd was never a bodger in the workshop and it seems his integrity extends to the production values of the show. Cutting down on the workshop stuff means WD is going to morph into another bland US-based entertainment show with cars, which there is already a glut of and others are doing it much better.

The signs were already there with the last series being weird and very 'off script', with Mike doing workshop stuff and cars not even going through the pretence of being bought and sold as the bookends to each episode. Even the 'twangy guitar' theme tune rendering was a cliche.

I was minded of the scene in 'Waynes World' when the show gets bought over by the big production company. shout

'New found freedom' 'relieved from my rut' powerful words if you read a little into them. I am glad Ed has spoken out and took a stand. We all have to do it from time to time at work and various parts of our lives. If you don't believe in the path you are being taken, go down your own path.

I really hope he gets snapped up by another TV show.

The comments on that YouTube video seem quite positive too - much higher standard than the usual dross comments you get on YouTube
