Oh dear... Mike has been receiving death threats. Seriously not cool, what is wrong with some people?

Update from Edd - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umWmzN1MqWs
Quite a few people are simply not sufficiently developed or evolved to cope with the extreme complexities of watching television. It's just too emotional an experience for them to process correctly and handle.
This has nothing to do with it.

The best Wheeler Dealers are from 2008 to about 2013. When the Yanks took over and moved production to the US of A it just turned into an overproduced piece of ste.

It has been said that Velocity thought that Edd China bits were difficult to film but I would have to ask how Attaboy and their crew of 8 managed to do it very successfully for nearly a decade.
By "difficult" they mean "time consuming" and therefore expensive.

The issue is actually pretty simple. The internet was brought up and used only by l33tists, then all these special n00bs got on the internet bandwagon without realising what they were getting in for, aka trolling, wishing cancer, keyboard warriors etc. Now the situation has become that these utter n00bs need protecting because they were threatened with cancer or that their mother is in danger of a bloody good rogering by Tyrone. Anyone who can't handle these type of insults or keyboard warriorism really shouldn't be on the internet.

I genuinely laughed out loud when Brewer said he had been threatened with cancer roflrofl, this is just classic trolling and I am genuinely amazed it has been taken so seriously.

Somewhat proves my point.

The internet has become too mainstream and folks on it now just don't know what it was like 10-15 years ago.

It's not difficult but not profitable. Instead of Edd fixing things the new guy will say "our friends at xyz have sent us these brand new parts" and that's allegedly the reason why Edd wasn't happy.

This. Velocity/ will be getting cash for product placement, so effectively the show just becomes one big TV ad. Plenty of other (US) shows that already do that.

Hopefully Edd can find a niche here.

Have you been drinking this morning? The internet has become too mainstream? You are making less and less sense the more you post.

Are you honestly disputing the fact that the internet hasn't become more mainstream in the last 10 years?

A good example of why America is very rich, and Britain is just well-off...

Edd has (allegedly) quit the world's biggest (or near-biggest) car show just because he might have to do a few extra adverts. He will now inevitably drift off into relative obscurity and make nowhere near as much fame or money. Not a great career decision.

You are assuming he is driven by fame and money.

Yes I am 100%.

the internet has of course grown year on year since its conception and of course there is more "mainstream" content on it but equally there is more unorthodox (i'm sure there is better word than this for what I mean) material out there too than there ever has been.

I am not referring to the content on the internet, I am referring to the users. 15 years ago your average minimum wage warehouse picker wasn't on Youtube or Facebook. You wouldn't catch BBC saying follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you didn't have news reports on some trolling on the internet. The internet has attracted more mainstream users who need "protecting."

Absolutely right, couldn't agree more with that.

You've contradicted yourself, however, because you laugh at Brewer and the audience's response to the revelations that he's had cancer wished upon him, yet in a further post say the mainstream users of the Internet need 'protecting'. Brewer would be just that - a mainstream user. He's not into l33t speak.

So do we laugh, or do we protect?

The time is a factor though if you need a film crew around all day whilst someone takes a car apart and then finds faults and decides how they will fix them. You then need to schedule what work is going to be done, what shots are needed etc. Much easier if you simply decide beforehand that you are going to replace X with Y. Of course Y will be from brand Z as you say.

We laugh and allow someone else to do the worrying and protecting. Let it create some more jobs.

With everyone and his dog now having internet access, you could say its become more "mainstream". Maybe that should mean that the morons who thought it was funny to troll 15 years ago are even more moronic for doing it now, to a wider audience.

Having said that, the whole kitchen sink drama that has become "Edd leaves WD" with the videos by all concerned is way over the top. Its only a TV show on a satellite channel.

The lulz is in the wider audience. Then it becomes a snowball effect, more lulz when they are on the news scared they are being threatened with cancer thus more trolling, look at how he explains that Edds repair efforts just made it worse and he still got blamed. When in midst of a severe trolling it's best to disappear. This guy just got it all wrong.

You can laugh if you want. I'll just sit here thinking these people are sad fks who've probably never had a girlfriend.

The thing I like about Wheeler Dealers was that it had an amateurish and unpolished quality to it. When it was moved to the States and they started doing mainly US cars some of them absolute stinkers i.e. - the late 80's Mustang etc the whole thing was just so fake.

Ok so the buying car bit was always rehearsed and the selling at the end was always a bit forced with some of the poorest acting this side of BBC Doctors but it was excusable because Edd's bits were good.

Some highlights over the years have to be the video on youtube filmed by the neighbour of a seller which had the director telling the seller to 'pretend you've never met Mike before'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4GOgV9a9a4
Another being when Mike went to get parts and they just happened to put the exact part he was looking for off the shelf beside them.

Trolls are assholes with no life. Whether his reaction was wrong or not, they're still assholes. Threatening anyone with anything "for a laugh" is a wky thing to do at school, never mind grown adults doing it.
