Didn't Edd China have a producer, or assistant producer credit on the show? Does that mean he put up money to make it? Or made money out of it on top of his fees? I don't fully understand how the technical and production aspects of making telly programs works, I just watch them sometimes...
...I mean, surely if he was a producer, then he would have had some control over the direction the show took?
Producer in TV is generally a salary man who has creative day to day input. He/she does what the Series Producer says - they have the creative series overview. SP does what the Executive Producer says as the EP may own the company and will have won the commission to make the programme from the Broadcaster based on what he told them he would do.

So Edd had creative input but holds no cards other than those he does as 'the talent'. Which is a high card but the EP made him fold as he wouldn't do what Discovery's Commissioning Editor wanted the EP to do with the series's new direction...

In a nutshell Ed wouldn't dumb down. Top man! Any more of that 'tell me, tell me again and then tell me what you told' me US style of hyped producing would be unbearable - and with less detail but more contrived jeopardy and MUCH MORE shouting no doubt. I cant watch most of that type of stuff on Discovery with beardy tattooed Yanks SHOUTING!

I love the Englishness of WD (and speaking as a Welshman too smile) still I have about 32 to watch on the SKY box! smile

Edd has made the decision for him and his family.

Don't think he cares about fame and fortune and good for him.

To be fair that's just normal stuff, its the DoPs job to give that kind of guidance and word up the extras.

Directors of Photography don't ever tell contributors what to say - we paint with light and compose magnificent visual symphonies biggrin. Producers tell them to lie ;-)

The thing I like about Wheeler Dealers was that it had an amateurish and unpolished quality to it. When it was moved to the States and they started doing mainly US cars some of them absolute stinkers i.e. - the late 80's Mustang etc the whole thing was just so fake.

Ok so the buying car bit was always rehearsed and the selling at the end was always a bit forced with some of the poorest acting this side of BBC Doctors but it was excusable because Edd's bits were good.

Some highlights over the years have to be the video on youtube filmed by the neighbour of a seller which had the director telling the seller to 'pretend you've never met Mike before'

Another being when Mike went to get parts and they just happened to put the exact part he was looking for off the shelf beside them.
Indeed, I was hoping, as I'm sure 99% of all watchers, to watch a video diary of Mike going to many places where they didn't have the parts. That would've been fantastic entertainment

I can't believe some of the people on here.
IT'S A TV SHOW,everything you see is scripted, rehearsed and filmed over and over until the director/producer/film crew are happy with it.....and then it goes off to be edited.
Do you really think Mike knocks on a door and the seller answers and that's the 1st time they've met ! Jeez some people are naive .
Here's a scenario for you, you're selling a car on Ebay and some cockney geezer rings you up,asks you some daft questions and then makes plans to come and see it.
There's a knock at the door and......there's a camera man,a man holding a boom microphone and half a dozen crew and cockney geezer.Don't you think you're going to ask what's going on ? No, because it's all a set up and you've probably done it 10 times already and cocked your lines up lol

You'll be telling me next the X Factor isn't rigged !

Yeah, this. Few things in tv purporting to be "real" are as they seem. People should remember that and not take it seriously. X factor included. smile

Surely you're first thought would be that it's a DAZ advert and you've been teleported into a council house and your wife has put on 20 stone and stopped washing.

I don't know actually. I recall it was Danny Baker and then the bloke who was in East Enders.

Just one of those horrific childhood memories while waiting for the A Team etc to return. Akin to 'That's ME!' Barry Bethel

This smile

I'm watching with amusement the Gold Rush/Parker's Trail 'challenge' of retracing the steps of the gold rush pioneers in the Yukon - just the 4 intrepid 'friends', battling the elements, filming themselves as they go.

All I can say is that whatever drone they are using for the aerial shots has a hell of a range for the operator to be able to follow them across 700 odd miles wink

That's the crappie (iPhone changed 'chappie'. Didn't see a particular need to fix smile).

He'll be perfect for playing Mike in the 'Mike Brewer The True Story' film which tells the story of how he fought the adversity of growing up with a debilitating speech impediment, the trials of not being able to find a wig in the wardrobe department that fits, the daily dilemma of trying to work out what shade of yellow to spray his face. And then focussing on the crippling illness that is slowly making him look like Kim Jong Ung. But with the uplifting and tear jerking ending where during the filming of an episode of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' he discovers that he has a long lost twin sister called Ling who also sells cars!!!

No you're right sorry, the best thing a man (or a woman, or a person identifying as a horse) can do for their family is not being able to look after them financially. It's unbelievable how socialist cancer spreads and eats people's brains away.

I saw last night the REAL reason he left.

He never wants to see another shonky Maserati in his workshop ever again.

In most studies money helps happiness until about £50k/yr, then doesn't move afterwards. I'd guess Edd is a bit beyond £50k.
