Edd China has left Wheeler Dealers
Discussion
The latest episode dropped today and was perhaps the least interesting yet. Began with some product placement for the air lines in the workshop and how to splice into them with the help of a handy scissor lift. Then a brief discussion of the Range Rover project with zero progress to report, then some more product placement on an engine endoscope from Milwaukee tools. Finally the last half of the show was electric ice cream van stuff on a motor controller and high-current wiring which was of very little general interest. The series literally seems all over the place. A shame really. He seems to need someone to keep him on track and focused.
What Edd could do with is a co-host, someone loosely associated with the motor trade, the sort of person who vaguely grasps logistics but who's absolutely brilliant at talking rubbish with a bit of fake drama periodically thrown in for good measure.
I suggest some sort of ageing, Essex wideboy...

I expect people have already discussed him, but Pete C on YouTube and his Cortina Mk3 restorations are just astonishing. I love his videos so much, watching him drag a rotten hunk from a bush and turn it into a mint, better-than-factory car is a joy, and his mad presenting style is so refreshing. He's no pro, just a man who is obsessed by Cortinas amongst other things. If you haven't seen his videos, please have a gander. He does everything himself pretty much, and it is truly mad.
Interesting to look at the number of views stat for each of the Workshop Diaries episodes. The first one quickly jumped to over 1 million views, no surprise given the curiosity factor. Those numbers rapidly declined with subsequent episodes and the last few have stalled out somewhere around 125,000 to 150,000 views apiece, give or take.
I don't know what it is about Edd, he just isn't very engaging on his own. I watched the first episode, but have lost interest in seeing any more. Funnily enough...the video thumbnails put me off as well. He needs to loose that stupid floppy hair icon of his.

I agree with several of the posters saying it's an awkward watch with just the great man himself, and no useful idiot like Brewer to provide the Yang to Edd's Yin.
What it needs is a bit of passion to counteract the tedium of unscrewing bolts. Edd needs to bounce off other people to really shine. Even speaking to the owners of vehicles as he fixes them would be more interesting. Having a realistic deadline would be a step in the right direction as it does seem a little aimless.
There's a real scattergun approach to the whole series so far and the ambient music and mood lighting makes it all rather soporific. The Q&A session seems a little oddly placed as it perhaps only interests folk with those specific issues.
I want the channel to succeed, but there's plenty for Edd to catch up on in the land of YouTube if he wants to grow the subscriber base.
Hopefully it will evolve and improve - most channels do.

I had given up on Edd's series because it just wasn't very entertaining. But the latest episode has him bringing back his old mate Paul Brackley from WD to help strip out the electric drive from the ice cream van and convert it back to diesel. Paul got replaced on WD at some point and it was said at the time that he had "retired" but that clearly wasn't the case as he talked about how he went on to work on other series after that. He even was the first person I ever heard say nice things about Drew Pritchard! Both Paul and Edd still seem unable to let the WD experience go.

Yep I am a big fan of Pete C, got hooked when he did project bramble. He's really skilled and his vids make some great viewing, even if they're bloody long sometimes!Greg_B said:

It was interesting to hear Paul saying how he did a lot of the work on Flipping bangers plus Salvage hunters classic cars. Also he did not seem keen on the new series of wheeler dealers.
