Where did you get that from, press relase says 'to persue other projects'.
From the video message that he posted to YouTube, linked to a few posts back.

The one where he says that his professional integrity was being compromised and so he is leaving.
IF WD really is that big, he could have continued with his producer credit and made a mint, presumably. But has chosen to do something he's happier with. Imagine he's not short of a few quid to tide him over for a while!

I would imagine that Mike Brewer now owns the main IP of the show, even though it wasn't his original idea back when it first launched. He owns X2 Productions who are responsible for creating the 'Trading Up' spin off series.

Digging around companies house records, it looks like Edd had some shares in some entities involved in the operation (along with his wife), but things have been dissolved recently. This would suggest that Edd isn't just stepping down from being in front of the camera, but also from the business side too. All credit to him for stepping back from something he doesn't feel best represents him.

I'm more surprised the show has lasted so long, but I guess it's decent filler content for some of the channels and inflight entertainment system it features on.

Does Edd ever not wear long sleeves under a T shirt? What is he hiding? Neo Nazi tattoos?

Just saw this. Ant's show with Philip Glennister is a decent programme with good chemistry between them. Not sure how it'll work with him and Mike. I've seen people saying they're moving away from the workshop side a bit, which sounds more like For the Love of Cars; more focusing on the history of the cars and trying to get parts, and less on the actual oily bits (which I tuned in for).

Seen someone suggest that Edd could team up with Johnny Smith for a show? I'd watch that.

Seems an odd move leave it when viewers are at its highest ...not even remain a share holder to draw down the future profits. I wonder what Brewer paid to buy him out?

To me, seems more like Edd was being 'gently' pushed out over the last few series.

Another great British TV idea taken over and ruined by the Americans to add to the list.

More a case of another good British company rolling over without a fight and letting foreign firms take them over and take the p*ss.

Think Edd has made a mistake in his decision (unless he was pushed). WD is currently the world's second biggest car show, with ~150m viewers. He is never going to get a gig as big as that ever again. He is not charismatic enough to pull it off. Even Clarkson, the world's biggest TV star a few years ago, has faded away after his big switch from BBC to Amazon. Edd will be happy now, but will likely come to regret the decision in a year or two when his income has dropped, YouTube viewers have shrunk, and he is stuck on a niche TV channel somewhere that nobody watches.

Very much so. Build time getting shorter and increasingly glossed over, Mike starting to "muck in" with the build (but not alongside Edd), the amount of "Edd time" has fallen drastically and it definitely felt like him getting edged out.

Maybe that level of fame comes second to job satisfaction.

I don't think it's 150m people watching Edd though. They're watching their own 'Edd' in many cases. He's just seen in the U.K. And the countries that broadcast the U.K. show from what he alluded to in his video.

50:50 joint owner with the brewer

Build time has been more or less the same of the years.

Maybe they are running out of cars to go after. Maybe car SOS is getting to be so much better and challenging?

So far, there has been no mention of Brewer's thoughts so did a quick Google and came up with the below.

Just saw this as well.

I can totally understand Edd's choice, it will be a loss of him from the show.

Ant Anstead is a worthy replacement though, having seen him on "For the Love of Cars" he has the knowledge and skill necessary to do the cars, and the right personality for the show.

Maybe Edd is setting up with Aaron from Gas Monkey? wink

He does. WD is one of Discovery's top 10 shows worldwide and is shown / replayed (with or without subtitles / dubbing) in dozens of countries.

The new American owners have obviously decided to dumb down WD to grow its relatively modest US audience. Edd should have played the game and kept collecting his pay cheque. A rise in rich US viewers would have meant a rise in his paypacket. Instead, he's probably now going to fade away to obscurity and his income will likely never reach the same heights. From a career perspective, it looks like a bad move.

Some people just don't give a fk about money. This is usually from people who have money.

What people say, and what people really think or do, are often two different things. When the dust settles, he'll sit down and quietly wonder where his career went.
