Just finished all 26 episodes and looking for more WW2 documentaries that are also a 'must watch'.

The two Clarkson did a few years ago were outstanding and I've seen the odd ones here and there that crop up in recent years.

Looking to watch some of the 'Battlefield' episodes as they will inevitably go into more detail (about 2 hours each) and seem highly regarded.

Suggest away.

Second "The Nazis: A Warning from History".

First shown on TV in 1997 but more relevant now than ever.

I know it's not answering the question, but the bbc series "The Great War" is in a similar epic vein about ww1 and is all on youtube.

I can recall watching a series about WW2 presented by Alastair Hay (also known by his comic character name of Al Murray) called 'Road to Berlin'. I believe he was selected to present it as he is a history buff rather than for his comedic talents.

Sorry that I can't remember much of the detail other than I enjoyed it, but I must add a caveat that I would rather watch a cr4p documentary about ww2 than 90% of the other stuff on tv.

Al Murray's "Road to Berlin" is very good and turns up on the repeat channels quite frequently.

There was a recent series about the formation of the SAS in the desert. Had some interviews with the original members.

I thought it was a good series, it was called SAS Rogue Warriors and was shown on BBC2.

I think there is an awful lot of "colorized" footage in that series. I am not a fan of this technique at all as it is essentially false.

There is of course, quite a lot of genuine colour footage from WW2 but I do not like it when they take black and white film and tint it to what they THINK the real colours MIGHT be.

There's a series called Hell In The Pacific, very much in the mould of The World At War, but newer and, unlike the fictional "The Pacific" brings in people involved from all sides, including the Japanese, Dutch Nurses and non combatants from both sides.

It's a great series, imo, and well worth searching out. Don't let the slightly sensational title put you off, it's not one of those terrible things with dramatised re-enactments or some droning historian driving a truck across a desert for minutes at a time (Yes, the recent SAS thing is what I have in mind - Could have been two great episodes without those elements)

You can buy it used on Amazon for pennies on DVD - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hell-Pacific-DVD-Jonathan...

D-Day to Berlin, real colour footage taken by Hollywood film director George Stevens.

Here's a clip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0puab0ksis

Been on TV a few times, it's here in full in 480p resolution - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4uknvo

Narrated by Robert Harris - more famous now as a best selling novellist (Fatherland, Imperium, Pompeii, The Ghost etc).

He was once a reporter and presenter for BBC's "Panorama).

I watched the Great War, the world at war and then "Cold War" back to back. A great way to see how the actions in each event led up to the next and shaped over a hundred years!
