Officially or online rumours / whispers between people who have been at recordings?

S17 hasn't been officially announced yet. I expect that will come at the end of the CoC episodes in a couple of weeks time.

To be fair, doing a quick google and a dive into Reddit I'm pretty sure I've found who they are...

Know 3 of them pretty well, one is a pretty big name. The other two, both the only females, not a clue.

Can't say they stand out as a group but you never know, S13, 14 & 16 didn't for me either and they were all brilliant. S15 I thought was going to be amazing and to me it was weak AF...

Unofficially, obvs. And I'm not going to share it either because where's the fun in that? Mind you, one of them tweeted about it last night and then hastily deleted it laugh

Great episode last night, much better than some of the recent series.

The contestants all brought something to the show and the tasks were back to there best.

Enjoyed the Taskmaster NY show

I'm not a fan of Meaden. She always comes across as taking herself too seriously (which is an unforgiveable sin in my mind) and thinking she's the authority on everything because she runs businesses. That talk to the toaster thing, actually showed how out of touch she is with the world. She wasn't really a good contestant as she didn't use any creative skills to get round anything. Nor did she bring any actual funny

Kojey Radical I didn't know but I found him brilliant. Would be good on a full series, but they never put the one off contestants in to a full series! He also clearly bonded with Lenny.

Lenny Rush was also unknown to me, but the kids got timing and a comedic gift. Here is a comedian with a disability that is actually funny and makes everyone laugh! (Take note Rosie jones! laugh ) HE didn't seem phased by a live audience either. I saw on Redditt that someone pointed out that every task was a sitting task to help him with his disability and not make it obvious. What a great way to do it.

Steve Backshall. The dark horse who got into and was good value. That pic was epic

Zoe Ball. Played the daft role perfectly. (see also Mel Giedroyc as another example) She can be variable but she was good here.

Steve Backshall had his own little task that wasn't in the main show. Eat an orange in 45 seconds biggrin

Just followed that rabbit hole....obviously nothing officially posted yet but one of the contestents in the leak back tracked on a tweet in last couple of days which seems to confirm the leak is at least partially true.

Of the three male comedians, have to say, excited about one of the ones listed as think there is massive potential for laughs in a "taskmaster" situation - have been a long time follower of his work especially in the duo which he is probably most well known for and saw him live recently and the show was spectacularly good. Admittedly, can see him dividing opinion for those who "don't get" him and some of his manorisms/behaviours. Also is a close friend of Alex Horne so chance for extra laughs there.

The other two are recognisable from comedy on TV but not necessarily stand up. One an iconic 2000's sit com (closest fit...), and one i've seen in a very well known recent series, and has done some bits on cats vs countdown which were quite good so high hopes there too.

Of the women contestants, not too knowledgeable of them but hopefully will prove to be dark horses as others who I haven't necessarily heard of had bought plenty to the fore in the past!

Is there a reason people are talking in code about the S17 contestants instead of just listing the names?

Because it hasn't been announced, it's from chatter on Reddit posts etc. I haven't looked on Reddit and I'd like to find out who's on when it's announced properly.

It's these two I'm particularly excited about, always been a fan of the older of the two having watched said sitcom since I was 10! The latter I've only ever seen on CDC but also listened to them as a guest on a podcast recently and I've high hopes, I'd love him to do it 'in character' but that's never going to happen.

I thought the New Years special was ok, nothing that memorable about it though.

As usual (which is probably me) I only knew of Deborah and Zoe.

One of them has had a relatively recent hit sitcom on the BBC (in 2022 I think?). If the line-up is as rumoured then S17 has the potential to be absolute carnage hehe
