I agree. I don’t think the latest book is going to make gripping viewing though!
I gave up on it when the web-chat started.

Ah, I liked that part, was well written, but yes hard to get on screen.

I had the audiobook. He read out every single dot, hashtag etc. It did my head in.

The fun in the text version is the multiple chats going simultaneously. It’s pretty clever, though I agree, it went on a little too long. Few too many plots running. Clever though.

They've all translated from book to TV pretty well. Some things have to be cut out and some things shuffled around to suit the change in format.

As I tend to listen as an unabridged audio books, as mentioned above, the webchats between Anomie, Buffypaws etc., were a tedius to listen too - and probably equally tedius for Philip Glenister to narrate.

After watching episode 2 which was great, even Mrs GTS wanted to watch another episode so we watched no3. Even better.
This is the first one where I have read the book before and I think it actually adds something to the storyline.

I think 2 edged 3 simply because a lot of 3 was non-case storyline.

Watched over two nights and really enjoyed it too.

Did the day filming the 1966 club scene in episode 1 and it was a cracking day smile

I rather enjoyed that programme and it was interesting that Tom Burke who plays Strike was acting in the same series with his mother, Anna Calder-Marshall who played the older Janice Beattie.

I never read the book but did you not think the reason for the murdering was a bit pathetic? Why did you kill: ....... and sometimes they piss me off.

I think Cuckoo's Calling was the best for me

I was disappointed that the old gangsters who could have tracked down Robin didn't track down Robin - so much was made of how dangerous they were and how she should stay away, and the scenes in the old folks home were genuinely disturbing, and then... nothing. Poor writing or just one but many dead ends in a mystery story?

But overall this series was great - it had a slightly more low key production and approach than the others, I felt, maybe because it was an old case rather than chasing around people that were actually doing bad stuff right now. It left more room for a couple of the personal stories to come through, which some people weren't keen on but I quite liked, especially as it's the fourth series. I personally think Strike doesn't deserve Robin, but the scenes in the swanky shop gave me the idea of getting Mrs Hill a 'design your own perfume' session for Christmas, so it's not all bad. smile

Late to the party on this but currently binging and really enjoying it. V heavy on the usual detective tropes but I don't mind.

Great. I've enjoyed all of them.

It will be interesting to see if the chatroom sequences fare better in the TV adaptation than the audiobook version. I think it probably would work better.
