Auction Watch Live
The Collecting Addicts watch and discuss a number of auctions that are scheduled to finish at the same time one night. First 30 mins discuss the cars and then watch the count down, once the hammer falls takes about the results etc.
I like the sound of that. smile

Llandow Laps 5. Alfaholics GTA R vs Tuthill 911.

Alfa please, and I hope they do this again with different cars (and maybe a few rematches) and better weather.

The Alfa is gorgeous, but I can't get my head around that price. I can sort of see a 911 for that money, but an Alfa ? I don't doubt it is worth every penny, but if you tried explaining to Joe Public (or worse, your wife) that you spent £700k on a car that was built up the road from us in Clevedon, I suspect they would think you were mad.

That alfaholics car is priced for the sort of people that money is some kind of theoretical construct where they have so much of it they need forbes to tell them how much they have.

It's well known that the top end hypercars and one off crazy special edition supercars (like the lp800-4 countach) are just being sold to the same limited group of buyers who buy everything. There is no decision as to whether to have the 600k alfa or the 4m koenigsegg or whatever - they'll just have one of everything. And then spend a ton of money putting custom luxury leather interiors in it and pretending it's hermes bugatti. That sort of thing..

These people do exist and they hoover up all this sort of stuff. They live in a different world to us mere mortals

I agree - and can’t compute all the same

Agreed, it's the kind of car that would have less demand if it was priced at £150k rather than £600k because it would then be in the reach of mere mortals

Agree, Llandow Laps needs a dry track to be more representative. Nevertheless it was great to see Chris wrestling the 2wd cars in appalling conditions.

They aren’t all 600k that one is a very special order that went further than any before by going full carbon body.

You can have one with just engine and suspension if you want. Even then you don’t have to go titanium all round on the suspension there less exotic versions available from them.

Obviously they aren’t cheap but I believe you can have a very nice one built for around 200k.

Or at least I hope that’s still the case I very much have one in my sights for the future.

I assume all of the Landow laps posted over recent weeks we're filmed on the same day.

Kinda felt like odd content to me. Not real car reviews, not realistic side by side / tests, not the right weather, not really... relevant at all?

Don't get me wrong, watching Chris slide things around is fun (for a bit) but it all felt rather pointless to me.

Saw the custard in the Mulsanne and came to find the thread, brilliant. Now waiting on Mat Armstrong to custard test.

A. Correct. Swiss plates add something inexplicable to a cars appearance. (Alpina B3 in hotel car park. Hadn’t spotted it. Sat waiting but heard it start up. Looked over, clocked car, Swiss plates, nice spec. My god it looked good.)

B. Brian Shul, SR 71 talk, referenced in YouTube video segment. What a speaker, what a story. Very enjoyable.

I think it’s time Chris Cooper was put out to grass now. Doesn’t seem capable of answering a question without mentioning either the Nurburgring or his boys. You can sense some of the others are getting tired of him too.

I wouldn’t normally comment on a Podcast, but I couldn’t agree more. He’s a crashing bore. I now skip thorough whatever nonsense he’s banging on about. He’s some sort of consultant isn’t he? Imagine how long a meeting with him must be!

Personally… disagree. Love the formula and content in current format and persons. I wish I knew a few like minded people who I could just chat any car stuff with. Everything they talk about and comment on is so in tune with my level of car nerd thoughts!

Only bit that slightly jars for me is the occasional… ‘I love the feel of that gearknob’….. ‘you’ve been touching what. What was that, I couldn’t quite hear’ type level comment/humour. Not direct quote, but pretty close to what I mean.

Only gripe would be sound quality / levels could improve. And that 456 needs purchasing!

But for something free, regular and hugely entertaining, it is more an observation than a proper dislike.

Tend to agree with this. They clearly operate on a different car level to me, and sometimes I disagree / agree with any of them at some point over the episodes. For example I violently disagreed with iirc Neil Clifford for his views on rallying way back in Ep4, thought him a bit of a knob, but now think that's not the case, just someone with a different opinion. Don't really have a massive issue for / against any of them.

Agree particularly on sound quality. Are the sound problems mainly from Manish?
