I thought season one of ‘Slow Horse’ was absolutely brilliant, season two less so.

Season three, just way too far fetched, to be believable in anyway.
Just started watching this on the back of the recommendations here, 3 eps in

It’s brilliant.

Cross between Luther and Spooks with a bit of Line of Duty thrown in. All the better for Gary Oldman who is superb.

This would be a massive hit if it was on the BBC

If you haven’t seen it, just give the opening scene a go and you’ll know if it’s for you

My sister raves about this show & keeps on to me to watch it.

It's certainly next on the list.

My wife and I have binged the first two series of Slow Horses over the past few nights and it’s very good. Gary Oldman is excellent, and so is Kristin Scott-Thomas.

One, minor, grating thing though is the characters are often walking or running down the middle of the road in some scenes. Spoils the realism a bit for me.

How does it compare to the books? I thought the books were brilliant (each got better and better) so I’m a little nervous of watching the TV series in case they ruin it!

Thanks

I’d you love the books (like I do) you won’t be disappointed by the series at all. They do the humour and dark comedy very well.

Binged-watched all of series 3 today, my recommendation: stop watching at the end of S2.

Rubbish. S3 is every bit as good if not better.

Ok....

Roddy Ho's car - "fancy" Subaru Imprezza but it's an auto? F off.
Roddy Ho in general - just immensely annoying this series
The stuff Lamb did to the cottage was almost lifted straight out of Home Alone
Longridge having a weapons cache in the boot of his Nissan Quashqui. F off again.
The plastic trim hanging off the rear bumper of the Quashqui near the end creating sparks on the road - yea, plastic is well known for creating sparks.
Driving the bus into the front of the cottage
The other immensley annoying character - the guy at the records store (Douglas?) - why? Why, also, stand and have a conversation about the override code for the door entry system after River has already shot the door entry system keypad?

Roddy's car is completely in keeping with his character. He be ridiculous in an Audi or Tesla.

The other stuff is what happens when you nit-pick any show.

The story is all important and it was uncomplicated, fast paced and funny in places.

I felt S01 was OK, enough to get me to watch S02. Which I liked a bit more. S01 felt a bit ridiculous that the antagonists had no real plan. And felt a bit preachy that "racism is bad" (In case we werent sure)

S03 started well with Lamb demonstrating why he was one of the best of his generation doing counter surveillance on the chieftain guys. But the whole "bunker" nonsense and this idea that MI5 run around killing off their own over a document is straight out of the Jason Bourne/CIA nonsense. The staging of Charles Partners "suicide" made sense given he was a traitor. But the rest of the Horses weren't that. And if Dame Ingrid was genuinely worried about it getting out she'd have destroyed the file and the records a few months after the case was deemed suicide.

I also was irritated by the Impreza. Not for the auto box, but because in previous episodes he's made out that he keeps himself off grid, different addresses etc. A car like that was as ridiculous as Lamb having a bright yellow Honda!

Also the Chieftan boss didn't live in Chelsea. But Holland Park. Wonder why they changed that in the script.

I'll stick with it to S04 (end of 2024 release) But I suspect it be an average series with some good highlights in it. I guess what I want is Tinker Tailor set in modern times and with believable action and technology.

I enjoyed S3 apart from the lack of continuity in the flake's attitude at the end of the final episode. Really minor, but really bugged me.

The three part documentary about the assassination of John Lennon is absolutely worth a watch.

Just finished S2 of Slow Horses - thoroughly enjoyed it and as noted above is pretty faithful to the “feel” of the books. Will have a bit of a break before cracking on with S3.

FAM continues to go from strength to strength IMO and in a couple of weeks Masters of the Air starts so there’s just enough for now to keep my subscription running.

If anyone has a free subscription that came with a Xmas present I’d highly recommend Blackbird and Bad Sisters too and the film Greyhound.

Many thanks for these recommendations , Blackbird & bad sisters looks right up my alley, the reviews on the IMDB are truly excellent .

Did they even make that model of Subaru with an auto, or is it an elaborate joke that he's blinged up a crappy version? He's a dick who thinks he's god gift so the car fits and the 'i'm off grid' stuff was bs, he likes to show off. Probably tells people he works for MI5.

There is always artistic licence, I suspect real life MI5 is incredibly dull most of the time. The characters feel real, the plots are mostly sensible and little plot armour seems to be available. It's a good series.

Killers of the Flower Moon being added to Apple TV on 12 Jan which will give me something to watch as FAM will have finished by then. Regarding FAM there is certainly a lot to wrap up in the series finale, I hope we get a series 5.

And I see a drama with Peter Capaldi -Criminal Record- starts next week. Along with Masters of the Air that should get me through winter…

Friday's Episode was decent, but way too much angst and family trauma instead of monsters.
