I did! The first hour or so was quite an interesting exploration of technology being a poor substitute for actual parenting, and then the stabby horror murder conclusion was kinda meh but ok.

just watched Dead Heat (Treat Williams) - cop is killed in the line of duty and resurrected. Very cheesy but still enjoyable. Weirdly I don't seem to mind the whole B-movies from the 80s but the equivalent crap on Amazon Prime made in the last 5 years really irritates

Good gal. Similar conclusion to me. Started off interesting, then went a bit pants.

From the description, it sort of reminds me of that episode of Friends were Phoebe is hating on Ross for the entire episode over something he did in a dream she had (ie. not actually his fault in any way).

Your description sounds intriguing though.

Did you ever see the Will Ferrell film where he discovers that his life is being narrated by / controlled by an author who is writing a book? An odd concept, for sure, but in the same ballpark as what you are describing.

edit: Quick google says the film I am referring to is Stranger than Fiction (2006), also starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson

Stranger than Fiction is one of my favourite films, brilliant concept and a very sweet story. I actually own the same model watch from the film after tracking it down.

Yesterday I went to see Challengers at my local cinema. It's a film about Tennis and stars Zendaya and Josh O'Connor, Prince Charles from The Crown. I thought it was very good and just over 2 hours isn't overly long. Worth seeing if you get the chance.

Watched Ted on Sky Cinema last night. Story of a kid who wishes on a star that his teddy bear was real, which of course comes true. 17 years later the kid has grown to become Marky Mark and the teddy bear has turned into Brian from Family Guy. Lots of weed smoking and fart jokes ensue.

Puerile and childish, and a few jokes you'd struggle with these days - still very funny and raised a few laughs.

7.5 Thunder buddies out of 10 for me.

And Mila Kunis.

Funny film.

The second one is just as good, I'd recommend that if you enjoyed this one.

The Holdovers

A curmudgeonly prep school teacher in New Hampshire has drawn the short straw and has to stay over Christmas with the handful of students who have nowhere to go. Set in 1971 and it looks as though it was made at that time as well with some beautiful old school camera work. Great performances from all the cast.

A good story well told. Recommended.

Civil War.

Intense, emotional, thought provoking, chilling. Bloody loved it. Just shows was a brilliant director can do with a relatively small budget (compared to the massive budget super hero nonsense).

8.5/10
Watched it this evening and agree - impressive
Just watched this on IMAX and also agree. Very thought provoking and brilliant performances throughout.
We saw this tonight. Wow. I was prepared to be underwhelmed after first half hour, it looked to shape up as a clichéd passing of the torch film, but I don't think I've ever felt as uncomfortable watching a film. It is a bloody horror film without the usual trite nonsense. Willfully beautiful in places as it tries to recreate still images, even when it isn't, and lots of nods to cultural icons...if you've seen it you'll know what I mean, it's not zombies we need to be afraid of, it's people...a genuinely disturbing film that twists the art follows life follows art stereotype and wrings every drop from it. Humourless, difficult but in a good way. Recommended. The 'war' scenes are really disturbing, certainly in the relative discomfort of a cinema

I mentioned that a month or so ago, glad that it's got some love (and I agree with you about how it looks like a 1970s film rather than just being set then)

Land of Bad.

I liked it, 80s/90s action movie vibe although I kept thinking I was watching Extraction with Chris Hemsworth.

Credits at the end tells me that our main man was played by Liam Hemsworth biggrin

Nearly as good IMO, plus a lack of Mila Kunis, sadly.

Boy Kills World

This was a fun one smile . 18 for blood and violence. Bill Skarsgard is Boy, his mother and sister are murdered in a Hunger Games type televised annual killing. He wants revenge on the family who rule the city. He's also deaf and mute, so the voice in his head is from his favourite arcade game that he remembers playing (H Jon Benjamin from Archer and Bobs Burgers).

If you're not into video game/comic type stuff this probably isn't for you, and it's more of a comedy than a serious revenge film. The cast is great (other than Archer, there's Yayan Ruhian from The Raid films, Sharlto Copley, Famke Janssen...)

It's almost a remake of BAT 21 (1986)

The Mercy
Sometimes I can't be bothered to spend ages looking for a film and I'll just find something I've not heard of and press play. This was one of those. It's the true story of Donald Crowhurst and his attempt to be the first to sail non-stop around the world.

Apparently there have been a few documentaries and films about this but they clearly sailed past me because I didn't know the story at all. I suspect that's the best way to watch it too.

It started off feeling like a twee Sunday afternoon ITV drama and we nearly bailed, but we stuck with it and once he gets out to sea it gets pretty good. It's a really interesting story and quite well told.

7 bouancy bags out of 10.

Priscilla
A biopic of Priscilla Presley which should be interesting but this is not a very good film. There's just no storytelling or characters. After a bit of setting up it quickly becomes, "this happened, then this happened, then this happened. The end."

It's pretty dull. The main takeaway is that Elvis groomed a 14 year old.

3 suede shoes out of 10.

Aporia
Quite enjoyed this little sci-fi film. It's a bit clunky but it throws up some interesting moral questions and kept me engaged throughout with a few twists and turns. I'd recommend it.

7 Grays Sports Almanacs out of 10

Yep! knew I'd seen a similar film before. Thanks for that.

Wasn't it Gene Hackman?

Yes I think so. [Quick Google] He's 94 now!
