The forensic side is fairly pedestrian, can there be many people familiar with TV crime drama unaware of
the basics of crime scene etiquette, fingerprints and blood spatter?

I find stuff like this fascinating.
Similar to a good 24 Hours In Police Custody, it’s really interesting to see how they piece together a defence to ward off potential directions of travel for the lawyers to go down.
He was aware he was thinking of heading next door as he told the original call handler to come quickly.
Having his phone history was illuminating.

I assumed he thought he'd do his landlord (may as well), and only she was in, so "she will do"?

I would wager it's easier, and less of a sin, to kill a woman, cultural misogyny in action.
I've recorded this but not watched it yet. It's interesting as a case to me, as I can see the 2 houses and back gardens of the people involved from my kitchen window... First I knew of it is when I had a knock on the door and it was a detective who asked me if I'd seen or heard anything suspicious that morning, as there had been an incident. My wife came back later and said she'd had to go the long way round as the street was cordoned off. When details started to emerge it was crazy to think this had all happened just down the road... The house is still boarded up and their cars are still on the drive. One of them has a broken window from that day and still has police tape on it. It will be interesting to find out more about what happened and why.

I watched the programme, and wondered what the car under the cover was on the neighbours drive. As there seemed to be at least one welder in the garage I wondered if it might be something interesting. As for the rest of it, it was interesting enough but not really my kind of thing.

I assumed it was abandoned, then when we saw the welder, I went, oooo, might be interesting!
