Forensics: The Real CSI. BBC2

All very strange. If you want to smoke a cigarette, go outside the factory gates. But if you want to regularly burn bits of plastic and inhale the fumes when inside the building, then crack on.
The programme left quite a few questions unanswered. For example, the police officer told the fire starter in interview that he definitely hadn't called 999. That line of enquiry just seemed to disappear, though.
I thought that it was going to end up being an insurance fraud investigation.

That was harrowing to watch, having had to have dealt with something similar with my Son a few years ago (which thankfully didn't go so far) I was trying not to weep when the actress spoke the victims words.
I was so glad to hear he got a decent sentence, I think it would have been better if he got Life with a 20 year term, he'll likely be out in 10 will still be a very serious threat to children, I would sleep better knowing he will be 'on license'. Unless I missed something, he could be back on the streets in 2033, with snapchat or whatever, and next time he won't be so stupid as to buy a copy iPhone.
Or maybe he'll have an 'accident' in Prison.

The fake iPhone were hilarious! Such crap quality and they were running android!
There's varying quality of fake iPhones, some really look decent and if you wern't very familar with them, you could easily think they're legit. They run a re-skinned version of Andriod that looks like iOS and they're often sold around pubs etc as being 'jailbroken' iPhones, which to a nonse could seem attractive as you usually don't need to create an account to use them.
It's lucky really, because the Police rightfully glossed over it, but a real iPhone with up-to-date software is near impossible to hack.

I don't doubt it. His ones looked really poor! As soon as they zoomed in (when they couldn't get the sim card out) it was clear they were cheap knockoffs. They run a re-skinned version of Andriod that looks like iOS and they're often sold around pubs etc as being 'jailbroken' iPhones, which to a nonse could seem attractive as you usually don't need to create an account to use them.

I watched this one in the week, how does someone get into this state, abused as a child?
That father of the 12 year old has 4/5 years of fun ahead knowing his daughter has already jumped into this sort of stuff. I'm not saying its her fault, it's just a horrendous world out there and you just walk a tightrope.
I also never realised iPhones were not breakable, how do they get away with this if its along the same tech as Encrophone or whatever its called.

Tech companies are always striving for better and better security. You can't design a 'back door' way for anyone to access them because it will inevitably and quickly be exploited. That father of the 12 year old has 4/5 years of fun ahead knowing his daughter has already jumped into this sort of stuff. EncroPhones were slightly different, they had their own message platform called EncroChat which was held on secret servers. There wasn’t / isn’t anything illegal about owning one, but the UK Police never found a single user of one that wasn’t using it for criminal enterprises! As soon as the French and Dutch police hacked the servers though, it was all over.
There’s a very valid argument that an up-to-date iPhone with the right security features and Whatsapp end-to-end encryption is more secure than EncroChat ever was. You can even set disappearing messages now that self-delete after a certain time. Whatsapp doesn’t hold any messages on their server, or indeed any record of them once they’ve been received. The biggest difference is that if presented with court order etc, Whatsapp with intercept messages and pass them on.

Something tells me the defendant got off with more than what he did.
Absolutely. Not only that, he got what I would deem to be a light sentence given the crime; £17k fraud and preventing the lawful burial of a body should really get more than a 2 year sentence (out in 12 months).
